X3TC CTD Tried all kinds of things and still crashing - Clean-up & reinstalls helped.

Playing X3TC, Steam version (newest version from there ofc).
Fresh install, as I'm new to the X-series. No mods.

I've been having regular crashes, every 15-120 minutes.

The crash seem to happen when some audio is coming in.
I've crashed right after docking as the welcome messages come in (right after auto-save, or 5-10 seconds later).
I've crashed when taking a mission and talking to the mission giver (again possible audio related).
I've crashed while buying/selling and audio message says or should say "X bought" or "X sold"

I've tried these fixes I found here:
disabled ffdshow for x3tc
verified game cache integrity via Steam
removed haali codecs and uninstalled the related software (K-Lite package)
fresh install of NVidia drivers
updated Realtek sound drivers

And the game still crashes - usually when there's some audio to be played or playing. And without very rare exceptions, X3TC is the only game that crashes for me.

p.s. I am recording with Fraps while playing, but disabling that and not recording is not an option, as I'm doing a let's play of X3TC.

I think you're on the right lines, but you still seem to have a fair few unusual looking codecs installed, and I think it's likely that one of them is responsible for your crashes. I don't recognise the ones with "VH" at the beginning of their names, so I'd start with those if you can.

It could be FRAPS. See this thread which was a similar 'unidentified faulting module' CTD when using FRAPS.

I would suggest only running FRAPS when you actually need to for recording purposes. Or run a lengthy test without FRAPS and see if it still CTDs which would eliminate FRAPS as the cause.

I played for 3.5 hours in two sessions without crashing, while recording with Fraps.

I don't want to jinx it, but something I did might've fixed the CTD issues for me - or at least everything was stable for a good 2 hours longer than before.

Here's what I did - and have been crash free since then (fingers crossed)

1) Disabled the other sound devices leaving only Speakers (disabled Realtek Digital Output & Realtek Digital Output(Optical)), as the other two weren't doing anything anyway in my setup.

2) Uninstalled legacy version Windows Movie Maker 2.6 as I don't really use it anymore, removing the WMM2FILT.dll codecs from dxdiag.

3) Removed and re-installed Windows Media Player (figuring that the WMP codecs might've gotten corrupted or messed up because of other codecs)
- in Windows 7, because WMP is built-in, I had to go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features + Turn Windows features on or off.
- There I disabled Windows Media Player to uninstall it. I restarted computer, and then enabled WMP again in the "Turn Windows features on or off - effectively installing it from scratch again.

In case I stay crash-free, it was one of the above that helped, in addition to the steps I did before already (which alone didn't help):

the "VH" codecs are related to XSplit, a utility for livestreaming (XSplitBroadcaster,VHMediaCOM.dll), and for now it looks that they are safe.
