Corrupted Auto saves

My computer began having heating problems, I had to force shutdown. I resolved the issue, however, upon starting up, my most recent auto save was corrupted. However, the second most recent was fine, and I lost very little progress. A new problem swiftly arose, however. Autosave one and three are there, but two simply says "empty". This wouldn't be terrible on its own, but the game will no longer autosave. When docking, the "autosaving game" mesasge appears, but the two autosaves(1&3) will not update. They remain the same before the corruption. My question is, obviously, how do I fix the problem?

Try deleting the corrupted files.

If that does not work, look in your save folder (AP or TC, whichever relevant) and see if you have a save called x99.sav. If you have, either rename it to x12.sav to replace the missing file or, even better, just delete it. Now see what happens.

Could someone give me the directory location for the save games, assuming that I have the game through steam? I couldn't find it...

The location of your savegames is the same regardless of whether your game is installed vis Steam or not. See this FAQ entry for details of that location.
