General Issues with AP I'd like to see addressed.

Post by xTemon »

First off, I'd like to say X is a great game, and there is a lot about it I enjoy, but I have a few issues with early incarnations it seems.

Issues:

- Displacement of placed objects in Sectors. This really needs to be addressed. It is crazy trying to put a station, satellite, or whatever in position when it gets thrown 50 km off placement objective every time in certain sectors.

Can't imagine trying to build a Complex with this. Haven't placed a station yet, but I read a post where someone ran into the same issue. Also, this affects Autopilot in a big way, causing the ship to fly in unknown directions when trying to autopilot through a gate.

To be direct, the Autopilot is almost required to avoid collisions when travelling through sectors; particularly when using SETA.

- Big signs on the Stock Exchange stations. Collision avoidance for Autopilot seems to ignore these. I had my Nova lose 100 MJs of shields and 70% of Hull when Autopilot decided to fly straight into one on station approach.

- War Effort and Mission Timing. This sucks. You don't have time to respond to these missions for two reasons: Distance travelled is usually fairly large, and even using Jumpdrive, you have to stock up on E-Cells, dock in a station, make repairs, pick up wares from the last mission, etc...

I don't even have time to respond with Jumpdrive and E-Cells available, as I undock hit Jumpdrive to closest system, and fly through gate to the system I can't jump to and I'm getting called to go to another location.

A good example is when the Argon Commander tells you to go on a vacation early on and try the Stock exchange. You jump to Omicron Lyrae, fly towards the gate to Nyanas Hideout, and he's calling you back.

Asteroid Belt: Jump to Heretics End and he tells you to go to Omicron Lyrae when you land there. We're talking less than 2 minutes between mission requests.

Omicron Lyrae, Fly into Circle of Labour, through the gate into Omicron Lyrae, and he's telling you to go to Belt of Aguilar.

Belt of Aguilar: At least you get there on time, but you are guaranteed to lose Hull in this battle, unless Race Response beat you to it. This seems random.

The other reason is Race Response. How can you fight a battle when nothing is left but missiles floating in space? Alternatively, you have the guys, (Paranid), who are supposed to be helping beating up everybody on your side including the ship you are intended to Escort.

In short, this is way to fast. I don't even know if there was a real mission in Asteroid Belt, or if there was originally an attacking Fleet of Terrrans in Omicron Lyrae because I never got there.

My answer: Run the first Mission to defend Treasure Chest, and never go back to talk to the Argon Commander. Hopefully that works, and I can do something else in the meantime, like take advantage of a ptiful rep with the Terrans to Cap a bunch of there ships, then go make a fortune on selling wares dropped in the conflict sectors, playing the stock exchange, and building stations, setting up UTs well away from the conflict zones.

edit: Just like to add, this doesn't work. I was running the first mission and got recalled to help Jonferco in Belt of Aguilar, without getting the other two missions.

edit3: Actually, I was mistaken. Middle of Battle Argon guy started talking about Jonferco and I thought it was the same thing. Turns out it was about the plot mission. Not going to M148 and docking prevents the War Effort Missions from appearing.

Given I was assisting in a Battle involving 12 M2s, a few M1s, and Multiple M7s, M6s, along with a bunch of Fighters I decided to stick around and ignore it.

So, I guess I'll just ignore it, though I was hoping not docking in M148 would hold off the War Effort missions for awhile. I like the idea, just not sure I want that level of commitment

If I think of anything else, I'll just add it here.

edit2: Also, I noticed ships getting displaced during the Battle in Treasure Chest, so this, (the coordinates displacement thing), isn't just limited to Stations and Satellites.

I watched an M2 bounce 50km away from it's original position near a gate. Same one, it didn't jump. It just moved 50km, even retaining the same attitude and direction of travel.
