Using scripting, opinions please

Post by takin me a whole sezura »

Hi, i real struggle with this game and when i actually managed to make money with my spp i thought that i would be able to do the game. But hey, the kwaak appeared and keep destroying my ts manta's so now i am losing money and so am back to square one. I can't find out how the hell to do it and nobody seems to be able to tell me exactly how. So i have devised a script to give me enough money so that i can set some buisneeses up at the start so i can make money though i didn't want to do this because this is cheating, though i wouldn't give myself any more than 2-3 spp at most, probably less. May be just one. I also planned on creating a script to take away the money i gave my self at the beginning so to make to fairer because i really don't want to be considered a cheat. What are peoples views on this. the problem is, when i get real far in the game and have decent fleet of my own, will people exsept that i have worked for it. So what are peoples veiws on this.

Firstly what does it matter what people think? It's your game after all. You don't effect thier game etc.. unlike if it was online. So play it how you want to.

Personally though any extra cash influx like SETA unattended or scripts other than MK3 I don't use as I consider them cheating bar a few other exceptions that are just button pressing shortners.. just imho though..

Personally, I dont beleive in cheating at all - Whats the point of forking money out to buy the game, if your gonna bend the rules ??? I think that if a game is difficult to begin with, ( making you do all the work at the start, ) then it will definately have it's rewards in the later stages...

But I must admit, This one does seem to be very tedious for new players (like me) but I have faith that something good will come of it :p...

I think that when you get 'something for nothing' it is cheating even if you have the intention of paying it back later. Half the fun is building up your empire int he first plcae, if you have to cheat to accomplish this then your self satisfaction will not be as high if you accomplished this by 'normal means'.

Ultimately, you will have to play the game how you want to, and don't concern yourself with what others may think of your gaming style. The only person you will have to answer to is yourself, ask yourself, is what you are doing fun for you? :gruebel:

I done what he said. But for a good reason. At least I though. I was playing for easly over 48 hours to get my empire started, then I got the doubble screen bug, where you get out of your ship in the station. I found it completely un-playable, partly becasue one of my eyes isnt as good as the other. So i loaded a very old save, gave me a bit of cash, just so I could get to where I was. I dont think it was cheating. What I would consider cheating is giving yourself 999999999999 credits and spawning a destoryer to do the first mission in!

Once and for all, there is no such thing as cheating in a single player game. You may do things to make it easier or harder, but no one is getting cheated of anything as long as you're enjoying yourself. That's what X2 is all about, having fun. :)
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.

I don't have anything against scripting, but I would rather earn the money I need thru trading...

But in the end, it is up to you how you play, if you want to use scripts or a hex editor or sit there in SETA for hours then go right ahead.
It was your money that bought the game in the first place so the only person you will be cheating is, well, yourself. If you don't consider any of the above cheating then what the hell...
Must think of something witty and interesting to put here...

I'm going to hold off on scripting until some "Official" documentation is released. I'm also concerned that 3rd party scripts would conflict with any forthcoming egosoft scripts....thus the only script I use is Burnit's Trader MkIII.

I did begin my current came on "easy" though.....because Ban Danna mentions equipping the original disco with gamma IRE's and easy is the only setting that does that, and because I wanted to take a practice run before progressing to higher difficulty.

Next game, post 1.3...if not 1.4/1.5, will likely be on XTREME because it will be a "Long Term" game and I'll want to eventually see 3 XTREME's in my player info screen. :D

I must say though......the Osprey script on the xscripting site looks VERY tempting. I'd try it if I knew it could be easily removed without having to do the wipe X2 from harddrive--reinstall X2--load archived "pre-script" games routine :gruebel:

careful the temptation is a bad one....
if you are cheating, you open the box of the pandora!!!

You'll ask yourself often enough..."do I really want to click that transport another hundret times to get from here to there and buy and sell if all I need to do is click the script and type the money i need"?
it may still be fun, but it will be different. It's not the same anymore... doesn't matter if you pay the money back or not.. .you've got the knowledge and you can't forget it anymore.

I've had that often enough.... usually I start doing it when the when I'm really anoyed... (99% the reason is loosing a savegame, putting me back days and weeks of efford...) when I don't want to start over and hack my savegame... 5 minute work... money, char stats etc... done it often enough. For a while it's hilarious... but more often than not I don't find the game as funny anymore afterwards.
And scripting is just the same... I love X2, but now that I'm scripting it I'm no longer truly playing.
Go ahead if you want... noone is to think bad of you, if you do it in a single player game... but be warned, it may ruin your game.

The old "game crashed, so I'm gonna cheat myself back to where I was" is something I totally agree with. Loads of scripts at the sites mentioned here will doexactly that. :) Clarker
We've got lumps of it ..around the back !
