FPS issues, again! ( Update! )

I am almost embarresed about having to post here again.

Anyway. I have recently upgraded my GPU and updated to 3.2 in TC. Problem is I would say for me at least performance has got worse! On a recent patrol mission I was against the Khaak. Each combat about 12 ships upto a destroyer. At one point the FPS slowed right down to the worst I have had in many months. I did not have any problem with FPS doing the Final Fury mission, in version 3.1, with a lesser GPU!

There is nothing wrong with the GPU, as it runs Skyrim on high settings with the textures pack, just fine!

Whats gone wrong do you think? My DX Diag is below. How do I go about rolling back to 3.1? Do I need a fresh instal?

Thanks for the responses guys!

Right first off, yes I know the sound drivers need updating, but last time I looked, ( a good few months ago now, ) there were no newer ones available; I will check again!

Second; I did have the up to date driver for the graphics card, but rolled back to the older one as I found there was no improvement in performance with the new driver and it was less stable.

I have fiddled with the settings for the GPU several times, it doesn't appear to be that. Specifically, the sttings for TC are the same as before.

Anyway I think I know the culprit, maybe. Forgive me guys for I have sinned.

I forgot to mention some very minor alterations to the game. I have installed the no tubes mod, ( cat, dat? ) and the no fog mod. I have also turned off the adverts on the bill boards.

I have investigated further and found that the issues are very much greater in what are meant to be ' foggy ' sectors. I seem to remember one of the ' improvements ' in the version 3.2, was to improve performance in the foggy sectors. Could there be a clash there?

If that is the case I have one of two choices. The first being to roll back to 3.1, where performance for me was very much better. Or put up with the fog again and remove the mod. The thing is I do not know how to roll back to 3.1 without making it a complete fresh install!

Further problem is I really do not want to go back to having the stupid, pointless fog in sectors either. Whats more, I cannot remember which of the cat., dat. alterations is which!

As long as your no-tubes false patch is correctly entered with its cat/dat pair after the last official/false patch pair then that should be no issue and would actually help fps in sectors with complexes. Is it working properly with your complexes in your 3.2 game?

Similar for your no-fog if it is a false patch but not so sure if installed in the mods folder. If it also includes the increased in-sector view distance function then that could explain your worse performance and that may possibly clash with the 3.2 fog improvements.

To find out what cat/dat is which, just download the mods again, extract and compare sizes with your gamefiles.

Cancelling the adverts by renaming the video file should have no adverse effects.

I think there has been a performance hit in sectors I have complexes, but to be honest that may be a false memory.

As for removing the no fog mod, I am not sure that I want the fog back! I think however that it too was a cat/dat thingy, so will follow your tip if I decide to remove it.

I presume there is then no easy way to roll back to 3.1 then?

Anywho, roll on the 24th and maybe I will get lucky and be able to order a retail version of AP!!

I think you can get back to 3.1 this way, but I'm not 100% certain so don't save over your existing important gamesaves until you are sure it worked OK. It will need you to have kept your old patch to 3.1.

Rename cat/dat 13 to something else as a 3.2 backup then apply the patch to 3.1 which will replace it with the 3.1 version cat/dat 13 and supporting files. I think that should do it but am not certain as I said. Play the game to thoroughly test it before saving over important saves no matter what version the splash screens say it is.

If it all goes horribly wrong, run a 3.2 patch to get back to as you were.
