Rusti's Guide to taking Artistic X2 Screenshots. (PICTURES)

Post by RustiSwordz »

Very simple 3 point rule.

1. Use all possible angles both using internal and external views, take time to position your shots and don't be afraid to take multiple shots of the same scene if you are to get different effects or angles, you can delete the ones you don't want. You wont effect the loadscr folder if you do some deleting. Just make sure your work is saved in a different folder. :D

2. Don't be afraid to use an art package like Painter or Photoshop series to alter your work. The Crop tool will be your best friend here, trimming unwanted waste piccy. Also use the pipper tool to select background colour then use the brush or even the smudge tool it to erase the HUD out of the picture.

3. Don't be afraid to be different, use different settings to create a unique picture one that will stand out of the crowd.

now 3 examples

Right this menacing silluette was of my Teladi Condor the 'BlackCat'. I used the external view/hat switch to move in and position the camera. When the image was taken i used a PS 7.0 crop tool to trim out the unwanted picture and tightened up the image big time. Also the bright blue HUD you see, or rather not. (big grin) i used smudge tool and a drop of background colour to erase em. (should be under asteroid first on right of gate. :D )

The following two used the same technique.

The above is using a 'drybrush' effect over the whole picture that goes well with this subject picture of this Mamba.

This final one of my Phoenix the 'Wells' is again using camera angles to zoom on the Phoenix and give an excellent false perspective of its two 'arms'. I then erased the HUD in the corner and cropped out the top one. To further enhance the false perspective i lowered the depth of focus by using the blur tool on the background and gate and the sharpen tool on the cruiser. To garnish i used a lens flare add on for photoshop which adds Babylon 5 style lens flares. (link to picture.)

Now its over to you. :D

All suggestions welcome, plz post below and lets see your efforts. :D

Nice pictures!

Do you have that first one in a higher resolution for a wallpaper?

hi Rusti, gotta say it, but the third shot, 197.ipg of the phoenix really does it. That is a phenomenal action shot. Tremendous sense of imminance, and the inexhorable momentum backed up and enhanced by the powerfully contrasting colous and tones in precisely the right areas to enhance movement and the sense of sheer mass and ...., maybe you could sell htis one to Juggernaught  goes with the name

The clone tool would be a better choice for removing the HUD.

You're welcome gerry, just goes to show how an accident can turn out to be lucky - I mean, how often do you fire a mosquito at a gate?
