Control of capital ships

Post by dargj2 »

I was wondering about the capital ships in the game and the words used to describe their control. As far as I can make out we essentially give the ship and order,such 'go here and attack this' and the AI does its best to follow that order. Whilst I know we cant pilot the ships directly then, is it still possible to give orders to a capitol ship whilst on board one?

The line that got me thinking was:
"You can in fact even land on these beasts and get out of your playership to meet NPCs while watching the large ship move around in space FROM the deck of the ship!"

If we can watch the capitol ships moving in space whilst onboard them, can we also then give them orders whilst onboard them instead of piloting the playership? Kind of like being the admiral in startrek stood on the deck vaguely telling the captain what to do and the captain handling the nitty details? :lol:

Supposedly that's what Egosoft is going for.

But we have absolutely no information describing the actual implementation outside of a few vaguely-worded interviews.

We're pretty much just waiting for a gameplay video to come out (or in a worse case, the game to come out).
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

Yeah, at the moment it's the assumption that you can only give orders to capital ships. (Whether on board or not)

X3TC;
You are top boss/admiral/CEO of your organization/military, and can give orders to capital ships. (Again whether you're on them or not)
But if you want to take the conn officer's (pilot) seat, you can do that!
If you want to take a turret gunner's seat (manual), you can do that!
If you just wanna sit on the bridge and give orders while drinking coffee (Janeway style), you can do that!

X-Rebirth as it seems;
Player: I'm your commander-in-chief and chairman of our private military, I paid for this battleship and I want try to fly it myself.
Conn officer: No sir, you can't do that.

Even Captain Picard flew the Enterprise himself on few (emergency) cases. :D

Picard nothing, in Star trek Insurrection, Riker actually gets the computer
to let him fly the Enterprise directly with a Joystick :D

But then to be fair the Enterprise has power steering. Presumably XR
ships are both much bigger and far less manoueverable.

Star Trek capital ships start at 625 Metres for the Enterprise D up to a massive 4500 for a Dominion Dreadnought.

So in general given that the enterprise is a cruiser and the dreadnought is a battleship, Star Trek ships are larger than X's.

The same goes for Stations, only Terran stations in Terran conflict come close.

It is even worse for X if you compare to Star Wars ships.

In both cases X ships fare abysmally when it comes to manoeuvrability.
