The player ship: What is it exactly?
I'm excited about X-R. I think prioritising immersion and ease of use will make me play this series again.
Because the player ship has such a vital role in this game, I'd really like to know what exactly we'll be using here. How big is it? What ship class does it resemble the most? How will it change over time?
And when I'm at it, how will the spaceflight physics compare to X3?

That... is a really good question. We have very little info, but from that I guess it will not be as big as a cap ship, nor small as a fighter, but something in between.
"It is a fast and maneuverable ship and can be expanded. Weapons systems, engines, shields, but most importantly: Drones. "
So fast and maneuverable, but it also carries drones (small carrier class). So something like an M6 or a bit bigger? That's my guess at least, I guess we'll have to wait for more info...

I would hope so. Personally would like it to be M7 but we are told
it can dock on a capital ship, so that would severally limit its size.
I'm guessing even an M6 equivalent would be too big.
Of course capital ships might have been made bigger.
I just hope it's not an M5 (or equivalent. We also know 'M' class designations
no longer mean anything)

It would be nice if the player could upgrade his ship into a slow, heavily-shielded, drone carrier with little direct fire capability, but also be able to convert it into a maneuverable, hard-hitting dogfighter with low shielding and drone capacity.
The player being able to mix-and-match abilities to complete tasks differently would add a great deal of replayability and work towards placating those who were disappointed with not being able to fly different ships.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

I have to say, when I first saw a picture I thought M6, and all the info seems to fit: a fighter would have trouble fitting all those fancy drones into its cargobay, while a true capital wouldn't be able to land on other capitals.
Ultimately, only Egosoft knows.

MAY CONTAIN A BIT OF A SPOILER!
Based on this pic http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/ ... en_014.jpg the cockpit windows is at absolute minimum 2m across, most likely about 3m... That in relation to the exterior pic http://www.egosoft.com//img/content_x_rebirth_quote.gif as well as the cockpit view display showing what seems like shield status gives us a ship about 10m wide and 20m long? Even when you take out some space for hull etc to get the internal capacity the ship should have the internal size of two big apartments an the exterior size is as I said roughly 10x20 and should let you guys figure out what "old class" that would mean...
The landing pads in vids etc seem very big actually, even if the ship was 50% larger it should still easily be able to land on them as far as I can tell?

I've compared the HUD image to ships in the trailer and I reckon it's none of them. Some people thought it was the ship being chased/escorted by 2 drone/fighter things, but that doesn't seem to match up properly...

Well, I don't know shat egosoft has in mind, but the 10x20m² looks good... for a minimum.
From the descritpion, we know that :
1. it has a crew
2. it has been well known
3. it makes a descent mobile headquarted
4. it has to have a decent life support - or I hope so, even if I know that Egosoft did let us live 24h/24 in a small M5 with no evidence of toilets in the past.
5. it can land on big ships
From this, and after haveing looked at Dassault Falcon size and at modern submarine size, and at my living room size,... I would guess any size between 20m and 100m long, and between 10m and 30m wide, and bewteen 4m and 10m thikness, depending on the crew size and needed autonomy.

Wait... so that ship is the Player Ship? If so, I got to say it's kinda... ugly.Zetoss wrote:MAY CONTAIN A BIT OF A SPOILER!

"Enter a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally traveling in an old, battered ship with a glorious past "
Could it be the Ap Gunner? what other ship has such a past, that is about the same size?

edit: just read the sticky..still in catch up mode for info. good guess tho right i mean it could have been...

Tex; Well if that's not the player ship then why would they put it in http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/info_en.php like it's pretty damn important? Also the monitor in the cockpit shows what I figure is shield status of that ship type in great detail. (BEAUTIFUL BTW) Hard to get much more certain...
That said, I didn't visually like the design either but I think I know what they're getting at and it's a very clever move, you'll either figure it out or realise it while playing....

I guess we could best describe it as a sort of X version of the Millennium FalconSaber15 wrote:Probably fits somewhere between M6 and M3+, like the DarkStar One in uhm... DarkStar One.

Also, I think it looks perfectly fine.
It's rather large and multi-functional, it has rooms, it's decently quick and it packs a punch. Also, it's old and battered.

It's far more likely that it's exactly like Darkstar One. A ship that you are stuck in for the entire game but that can be upgraded in various ways.
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!
