A guess about the co-pilot
Bernd stated that the co-pilot is "really a part of the ship". The earliest announcement stated "Enter a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally travelling in an old, battered ship with a glorious past". There have been other comments about the co-pilot that seemed to imply something unexpected about her.
Could the co-pilot possibly be Betty converted into corporeal form somehow? I wonder.

I think it could also be that little lost girl named Susie...
May be her parents never found her on the Trading Station as she'd done a bunk and went to find an awfully big adventure amongst the stars.
She'd been wandering about the spacedock and found a nice captain with a ship named "The Pride of Albion"...
But something probably around 'BETI' being a ship AI has my vote...

Sounds to me that you might not have her in the beginning of the game but later in the plot. That makes me hoping that it's possible to exchange her if you once had to hire her.Bernd wrote:The Co-Pilot
Some of these NPCs can be hired and exchanged, others you meet by destiny (or as we refer to it: The plot). The best example of that latter kind will be your co-pilot. She will be your interface to the ship and helps you control many of the more complex aspects of the game.

Unlikely, she is supposed to be your interaction with your ship and crew iirc.EuRoKa wrote:Sounds to me that you might not have her in the beginning of the game but later in the plot. That makes me hoping that it's possible to exchange her if you once had to hire her.Bernd wrote:The Co-Pilot

If I understand it correctly.. Rebirth is about 800 later (Or so I got as a impression)
That would make Suzie a very old woman..
Probably too old to be a co-pilot.

You think a hero is some weird sandwitch and not a guy attacking a Xeno J with a kestrel.
Sir.. I said .. A guy attacking a J with a kestrel is the sandwitch.

I think Bernd meant the co-pilot forms a significant part of your interface to the game/ship. Not that she really is part of the ship. It has been said it's a person! I think it's just that the game uses conversation with your co-pilot as a method to access all the control options...
Could be wrong, but I think that's the way it's going

It could also be a Xenon.. Makes a great interface with the ship controls.
Xenon steering, man deciding. An great combination, because a Xenon has no fantasy but has direct contact with the ship controls and so has fast reflexes, and a Human has intuition and creative capabilities to decide what to do.
Just an idea...
Oh - wait a minute... it was a unlikely companion...
Another possibility... Susie..
But not the little girl...
No - this time it is only the brain (probably cryogenic preserved - just like Winters), connected to the ship steering mechanisms. Sounds scary? Read the novel "The Ship Who Sang" from Anne McCaffrey, and you know what I mean. Not scary at all!
But I guess that's too far fetched...
Let's think again....
Hmm... Khaak? Naah... cannot be... not likely... I mean... ouch...

Not really far fetched. Wasn't it in IWAR-2 that the Spirit of the old man helped guide the kid pilot from the start?JClosed wrote:It could also be a Xenon.. Makes a great interface with the ship controls.

I might be wrong, but Winters had been in cryo as a whole.JClosed wrote:No - this time it is only the brain (probably cryogenic preserved - just like Winters
Khaak cannot survive an oxygen atmosphere (according to the books), same as Borons (but they have at least spacesuits)JClosed wrote:Hmm... Khaak?
