Paranid loses 4 Frigates and 1 Corvette to PIrate Action
The Paranid sufferend a humiliating blow today as unknown Pirate forces boldly assaulted five of their most heavily armed patrols and made off with the flagships in each case.
Reports originated from Savage Spur, where a Deimos patrol assigned to control the Yaki infestation reported hostile contact with what appeared to be a captured missile frigate of Split origin as well as the Hyperion Vanguard that was reported as scuttled in Emporer's Ridge just 2 nights ago. Long range communication with the Deimos was lost very shortly thereafter.
A Heavy Nemesis patroling Emporer's Wisdom reported seeing the same corvette some time later. The captain of the Nemesis had this to say: "We saw an enemy corvette on our gravidar and closed to investigate. We confirmed that it was the same vessell reported in the Deimos incident so we set course to intercept. Our crew was eager to make another Pirate kill but the Pirate Vessell demonstrated Pirate cowardice by running. They will not return to Emperor's Wisdom while we are on patrol."
Only mizura's later the same vessell was sited by an Ares Patrol Group in Pontifex's Realm. The Captain of the Ares reported that he was on the veerge of destroying the Pirate vessell, but soon lost all long range communications.
Frieghter Captains reported the same Pirate vessell travelling at a high rate of speed through Priests' Refuge, Spring of Belief, Unholy Descent and Consecrated Fire with no incident. Military forces attempted to ambush and destroy the vessell in Friar's Retreat. Three seperate Patrol groups engaged the Pirate vessell but all are suspected to have been lost or captured at this time. Civiliarn witnesses estimated that the Pirate Vessell crippled and then captured a Hyperion Corvette, an Agamemnon Frigate and an Ares Frigate over the course of a 2 huur battle that terrorized the citizens of Friar's Retreat.
The last sensor readings from the area indicate the vessell and the captured ships all jumped to an undisclosed Argon sector leading to speculation that these Pirate actions are somehow releated to Argon special military forces. The Argon Diplomat to Paranid Prime was unavailable for comment.
Paranid Military spokesmen denied the extent of todays losses; and insist that the mediate has sensationalized the reports. "This is just another Pirate Vessell that has had a small string of good fortune, but the Paranid fleet is closing in on them and they will be destroyed or captured very shortly."

Open letter to Pirates:
I must thank you once again for your seemingly never-ending kindness, I happened to be in Moo Kye's in my Kraken of all ships, and what should I bump into, only one of your captains piloting one of those marvellous Carracks I am so fond of. Anyway, I sent a 'negotiation' party over, I really couldn't wait, so I sent them in pods because its faster that way. And what do you know, my 19 'skilled' negotiators managed to persuade your charming captain to hand over the ship, oh you can't imagine how grateful I was. After this momentous occasion, my appetite for a bargain was whetted, so I grabbed my negotiators and jumped north to Mi Ton's while I ordered my Hype V to arm my newly acquired Carrack with a JD and some Ecells and pack him of to the nearest shipyard.
And what should we find in Mi Ton's, A Brigantine! Ah lovely, so sleek and so deadly, and now, due to some swift action from my dedicated team, so very mine. But hark, what have we here, The Brigantines former flock of escort fighters seem dismayed at my 'transaction', they are trying to scupper my new baby, luckily for me it came with 26 IBL and 20 IPG, it's amazing how quickly those fighters disappeared.
So once again, my Hype V is relegated to the lowly task of JD and Ecell shuttling, whilst I notice another Carrack entering the sector, oh well, better grab my marines off the Brig and get myself another bargain. 5 minutes and a fair amount of hammers and flails later and I have another Carrack, your generosity never ceases to amaze me!
Well my Hype V has run out of spare JDs, so it off to home of light with him, as this time I see another of your delectable Brigantines heading into scanner range, oh it is my lucky day, bit of a tricky one this though, the Brig is 28 km away, and halfway between us is my 2nd new Carrack, still with my marines on board, must dash, plus there seem to be hundreds of your fighters coming from all directions. I know, I will start launching Hammer/flail as I make my way to the carrack, and once I get there, the shields on the Brig are already down, so I swap the marines into my Kraken and within seconds they are on their way to the Brig. It's alright, I have decided to pay them double time for this exhausting shift, the money from the sale of your 2 Carracks and Brigs should cover that.
But now I have a fairly defenceless Carrack floating about, I know, I will call in my Aggy and put it to work defending the south gate so no more of your pesky fighters can get in my way, meanwhile my marines have come to a deal with the captain of your second Brig, give us the ship, and we will only feed ONE of you grandmothers to the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. Still lots of you fighters about though, tell you what, I will stick my Pheonix at the other gate, finish up the remaining fighters at my leisure and clean up.
Oh by the way, one of your pilots left me his Blastclaw Prototype in all the confusion, what a gent, tally ho!

Dear Teladi,
I noticed you just mysteriously lost several TL, M2, M7 and M1 craft. I just happen to have some spares I just aquired, and wondered if you would be interested in purchasing them? They are slightly damaged, and have no equipment but are otherwise perfectly functioning craft. Please excuse the bullet holes and blood stains, they are there to give that genuine warcraft feel.
Cheers and thanks, always a pleasure doing business.

From the Pirate News Agency:
An incursion into the Pirate sector "Split Fire" by Paranid military forces was recently engaged by the forces of a piratical Split traitor. According to witness, the Split entered the sector in a Military Transport of Yaki construct. This Transport disgorged a wing of 3 M3 class fighters which dispatched of the Paranid military fighter escort. However, during the course of the fight, the Paranid Ares Frigate that had led the expedition made a cowardly getaway to the Paranid Border Sector "Priest Pity".
The Split pirate's 3 fighter craft pursued the Ares into Priest Pity, accompanied by a daring member of the Pirate News Agency.
The forces of the Split pirate quickly overcame the small local Paranid police force. It was at this point that a strange Corvette class ship arrived, apparently also a member of the Split's entourage. This ship pursued the Ares and stripped its shields with little effort. After this, 2 Personnel Transport class ships arrived at the west gate and began to close on the Ares. While the strange Corvette continued to bombard the Ares with explosive anti-matter fire, the Transports disgorged a cloud of 20 marines which closed the distance to the Ares, attached to the hull, and began forcing their way inside. Minutes later, the Transport ships jumped out, the fighters returned to their Military Transport ship, and the strange Corvette escorted the Ares for awhile until both of those ships also jumped out.
The Paranid Military is claiming that their Ares Missile Frigate followed the Split pirate's forces to an undisclosed location and destroyed them. The Paranid Government will hold a military memorial for those pilots mercilessly killed by the vile Split pirate.

I was restricting myself from buying anything bigger than M3's, so that meant I had to acquire my first M7M by spacewalk. Was frustrating and took several reloads to get the damn marines to launch correctly, but that ship only "cost" me about 18 million in repairs, rather than the 50 million+ it would cost at a shipyard.heratik wrote:M7M spacewalk eh? Good work fella! I am looking into trying some M7 spacewalk boardings, I just need some more capital to invest in a swarm of disposable fighters for the task. Hopefully the money I make selling those 4 pirate capitals I bagged last night will do the job.blackfire83 wrote:I was restricting myself from buying anything bigger than M3's, so that meant I had to acquire my first M7M by spacewalk. I made an attempt on an Aggy the other day but it was using my main fighter fleet and I took what I would call unacceptable losses in achieving it (both marines and fighters).

Exactly! I wish to set myself some boarding challenges, Apart from Xenon, M7M boardings are usually fairly routine these days. I wonder if anyone has spacewalked a Xenon Capital, now there's a thought...blackfire83 wrote:Honestly, spacewalking an M7M is easy; they don't defend themselves at all. Spacewalking a regular M7 would be... painful.

That's a good point, I think they have super tough hulls like Terran ships don't they...blackfire83 wrote:I'm not sure that even at 100 Mechanical rating you could cut into a Xenon capital via spacewalking. I'm not at a point in my game where I could try it, but it sounds crazy.
Although I have spacewalked a P, but they are probably different.

Yep, you would have to have a good flow of (probably expendable) ships delivering marines to keep the numbers up, A J might be the obvious target as it moves so slowly and has less turrets than the K.Infekted wrote:The problem with spacewalk boarding is getting all your guys to the target and inside at the same time. If they go in piecemeal (as they often do with spacewalking) they'll get chopped up in droves.

Reports have been confirmed of additional Pirate hostilities as the Paranid Military scrambles to save face. In a string of raids right under the noses of the heavy Paranid Military presence of the Paranid Core sectors. The targets of these raids were unarmed Arenas and Hospital Ships; demonstrating the cowardice and brutality of this Pirate Band. It is estimated that 6 such vessels were seized and another 3 destroyed.
There were strong Military defenses in each sector but in each case a diversionary fighter attack was used to lure military forces away from the intended targets. The attacks began in Priest Rings where an Arena ship was assaulted and then captured before a Deimos Frigate patrol group in the sector could intervene, the Arena ship had been captured and jumped to nearby Argon space.
The Pirates were next seen scouting Dukes Domain. A Pirate fighter group appeared to be attempting to strip the Carrier patrolling that sector of its escort fighters - but what turned out to be a ruse to lure away the defenders from the nearby Hospital Ship. Pirate forces Jumped in two Corvettes and seized the Hospital while the Carrier scrambled to intercept. Again, the ship was last seen jumping into Argon space.
The Pirates used this same technique to isolate and capture unarmed transports and armed Supply Transports from Paranid Prime and Trinity Sanctum. The Supply Transports were equipped with point defense weapons, and should have easily defended itself from the boarding pods used by the Pirates, but survivors reported a spam of wasp missiles appearing around the ship just as the boarding pods were visible on the horizon. Military Analysts have criticized the weapons industry for allowing such expensive point defense weapons to be circumvented by such an inexpensive missile.
The Pirates seem to be using specialized weaponry to strip the shields quickly while minimizing damage to the captured ships. Pulsed Beam Emitters are usually used by fighter craft but the Pirate corvette was reported to be carrying a full load out of the weapons which stripped the shields in seconds.
The Office of the Priest Duke has denounced the attacks and insisted that these are no ordinary pirates. "We insist that the Argon Government cease these clandestine attacks or face the immediate threat of the Paranid Military." It is clear that the Pirates are operating out of Argon space, but many analysts suggest that the Pirate faction is actually led by a previous Split Intelligence Operative turned Outlaw that escaped from Tkrs Deprivation in a stolen Medusa Prototype only 4 Tazuras ago.
The discipline of the captures has led many analysts to wonder why the Pirates destroyed 3 similar ships. Our internal analyst seems to believe that the ships were destroyed due to their installation of Hull Polarization Devices. No word on why the Pirates would destroy such vessels, but the device has been suggested for inclusion on future transports. Unfortunately, supplies are low so it uncertain when the devices will arrive. Public Services will continue however, as replacement ships have already been delivered.
