RULES
1) Only personal fighter can be kept until a TM can be bought, outfitted, and piloted. Then up to 4 fighters can be kept per TM ship.
2) All non-player ships must have a CODEA/MK3/CLS1-2/CAG/etc? pilot in them as soon as possible from acquisition otherwise they must be sold.
3) This means that Freighters can only be for trading autonomously until a CODEA pilot is sufficiently trained to be elligable for Freighter service at which time they can "choose" to be used as a Repair Vessal with a Repair Laser obtained through Repair Laser stations provided by Auto Prep Ships script.
4) Everyone but Xenon/Kha'ak can be befriended, but all are subject to some pirating if the situation calls allows for it without completely tanking my reputation.
5) No personal trading, such as Ecells @ 12 --> Consumer @ 19 kinda thing; but my other ships can do it as much as they want as long as the pilot is not me.
6) This is a DiD game so of course if/when I die from a] extreme pilot error or b] a blaze of glory on the battlefield I will have to suck it up and stop the game. If I die from stupid stuff like running into a gate, or anything else auto-pillok related I will let you know and reload.
7) ......not sure if there is a 7 but if ya'll come up with anything that might work I will see about adding it in as a rule.

Prologue
Born and raised on Argon Prime, I, Anon Emose, grew up an orphan. When I age'd out of the orphanarium I struck out on my own to make my way in the world. That didn't come easily, and from the time I left the home until just a week ago on my 25th birthday (what I'd like to think is my birthday anyway) I have worked and worked and worked to scimp and save every bit of money I get ahold of. Finally, though, I have enough to start my dream of being a pilot in space. I took a correspondance course through the holo-vid system at my employer's and got my pilot's license taken care of. Remarkably easy...seems they will let just about anyone fly a ship nowadays! I also contacted someone at the Shipyard in geosynchronous orbit over the planet and got a good deal on a stripped down Discoverer class starship. I even had 3,000 CR leftover to get me started up there. Spent 500 of it for a quick taxi ride up to my ship, so now down to just 2,500. Time to see what I can do with this thing.

CHAPTER 1: The Beginning

All that this Discoverer came with is a single 1 MJ shield and a SETA drive. Looking at some data about the shield in the onboard encyclopedia of useless crap I see that it can be sold off for a little more than 5k CR. I definitely will do that as soon as I can get to the Equipment Dock.

When I get to the EQ Dock I sell my only shield and get a quick 5,192 CR for it! Huzzah! It also upgrades my status with the Argon Federation up to Member status from Citizen status. Seems pretty odd that just selling something that I don't really intend on using anytime soon should get me a reputation increase...

I go ahead and buy a Duplex Scanner and get it fitted onto the Discoverer, and then buy as many tunings for my engine as possible from the folks at the maintenence bay. I can only buy three levels of tunings at the moment, and there are still sixteen more that I can get installed at a later date... something to work towards I guess. I use my remaining funds to increase the strength of my cargo bay's compression field stabalizers so I can carry more stuff, if I find anything just lying around I'm goin to take it and that's that!

I'm left with just 80 Credits leaving the station, but a lot of good has come of it. Now to find something to do and make some money to buy more stuff!

Name...a name is what I need. For the Discoverer, not myself...at least not right now haha. I think I will call it the Argonaut. Fits well I think, since I'm an Argon and it's a ship, thus the 'naut part fits in...

I check the sector map built into the front display panels and see that the dock I just left has a job that needs doing. Looking into it, I would need to go out and kill someone. I don't have any guns so that is a bit out of the question right now... maybe later? I set my heading to the east, and into a place called The Wall.

I roamed around for a little while to get my bearings and fill out my sector map for this area and I see that one of the large Wheat Farms has a job to do. This one says it's about to get attacked by some pirates and that they need to be protected. I think that I can take this job. I won't actually do any of the shooting but I'll keep a look out for those pirates and let the local authorities know what's goin on and then watch the fireworks...and pick up anything left behind by blowed up ships too.

It wasn't long before a pirate owned Harrier Hauler and Discoverer Vanguard showed up to make a run at the Wheat Farm. I have no idea what they were thinking in doing something that stupid though; really, two pretty weak ships against a station's shields? Well, long story short, both got swarmed by local military and police assets and I got paid about 4500 CR for doing absolutely nothing. I also was able to salvage a Firelance Missile from the wreckage of the Discoverer and my reputation jumped up to being a "Confirmed Friend." All for doing nothing! I think I'm goin to like being up here in space. So much easier than working down on the surface.

I think I have just about everything here in The Wall scanned into my sector map, so I am going to head south and see what's up in President's End. I heard about a Kha'ak invasion occuring there a while back, and hearing that it was destroyed. I wonder if they have rebuilt there yet? The answer to that question is a no; there is nothing in President's End other than a lot of station hulls wasting away. I'm going to head on south to Cloudbase South East now to see what's going on down there, and find out if I can be a station to military/police liason again. That was pretty fun to watch, and really really easy.

The answer to that question is a yes! Just it is nowhere near as lucrative a deal. Only going to get paid 850 CR for being a go-between this time. Every little bit helps, though, and I might be able to pick up a few more Firelance missiles from the pilots. The person I'm talkin to isn't sayin it's pirates threatening him, but it has to be right? Who else would attack an Argon shield facility?

I was right! It was a pirate attacking! A Harrier Raider, alone, comes in and tries to take out the shield complex...I wish I was joking about that, but sadly no. I also see another pirate Discoverer Raider and a pirate Buzzard Vanguard roaming around. They don't seem hostile to me though, so I just watch as they get torn up by the local border patrol groups, and laugh. The pilot of the Discoverer Raider decided that he wanted to live more than die, and ejected from his pilot's seat and started heading off for the nearest station. I took this opportunity to go and steal his ship. Stealings alright if it's from pirates... two Arrr's make a right, right? It took a few minutes to figure out how to make my repair laser work on my space suit, but once I did it only took a few minutes to fix up that Discoverer Raider to full integrity and send it off to the local super-shipyard to get sold off for scraps.

Why am I selling it off for scraps? Well, firstly I don't have enough shields or weapons to take care of two ships at one time, so one will have to go. Secondly, it has less cargo space than my Argonaut, which is a good reason to go sell it off. I am going to oversee this transaction myself, so that I can get a feel for how trustworthy the salesmen there are, then I will get a Trading System Extension for the Argonaut and take care of transactions via holo-vid.

I get an enormous sum for selling the Discoverer Raider. 61,242 CR in total. I think that I will be able to buy a full complement of weapons and shields for the Argonaut now that I have this cash infusion. Off to the Equipment Dock I go to get more upgrades!

Okay...spent every bit of money I just got on upgrades and weapons and some shields...

Got a Trading System Extension, the Special Command Software pack number one, the Fight Command Software pack number one, a Boost Extension, nine more tunings added to the Argonaut's engines, a few upgrades to my steering, and a few more compression modules for the cargohold stabalizers. Also, got four Impulse Ray Emitters and three 1 MJ shields!

CHAPTER 2: Movin on Up

After getting clearance to undock, and making sure that all of my new equipment and upgrades were secure, I disembarked and saw a small group of pirates floating around the sector. They aren't hostile toward me, which is a really good thing since there are three of them together and all three are a class above me, being Busters and Buster variants. I check the sector map and see a few of the local border control agents flying their Novas making a beeline for the pirates. Maybe I will get lucky and see one or all of them bail out of their ships?

One of the Novas got toasted and all three of the pirates became dust. None of them dropped any goodies for me to grab up into my cargo hold though...and none of them bailed out for me either. So I am stuck with being in the Argonaut for a bit longer.

I am going to head off to through the West gate into Ore Belt and see what is goin on in there. I'm goin' to guess that some ore collecting is going on there, which means freighters. To my knowledge freighters are a pirate's favorite target. Maybe I can get one of those then?

No dice; spent a few minutes boppin around the sector to fill out the sector map but didn't find anything interesting going on. I did find a Pirate Base though, which is sorta odd I guess since there aren't any pirates hangin around it. Time to head on to the next sector, to the west, which is Cloudbase South West. Oh, the Plutarch Mining Corporation's Headquarters is located here in Ore Belt. Maybe I will do some contract work for them later on when I get into a better ship.

At one of the Cahoona Bakeries in CBSW there is someone in need. Not very much need, but need none-the-less. He wants some protection from "shady characters" but is only going to pay 185 Credits for the job. That's about how much I have currently, so I take the job. I guess the guy knew that the pirates weren't going to send anything big to attack the station considering such a small payout. All that appeared was a single Harrier that somehow was going slower than the Argonaut, so I was able to catch him and kill him quickly. Got an extra 8 Credits for killing him myself, at least! Too bad the pilot wanted to die, my payday would have been much higher if he had just had a little desire to live.

I'm a little suprised at just how easy it was for me to kill someone else, just because they show up as a hostile entity on my sector overview...

My reputation among the Argon Federation increased a little bit more with the success of that job, and am now an Accepted Advisor; also, since I killed that pirate, I am no longer considered harmless. I am now a nuisance!

Nothing else to do in this sector. It is pretty small also, with a lot of debris floating about tryin' to screw up my ship's auto-pilot. A few times I almost crashed into one of them! I am going to head north into Red Light before I have any more close calls.

The first station I see in Red Light gives me exactly what I want, a job with a decent payout! They want me to patrol this sector and also CBSW and end in Emperor Mines which is south of CBSW. They are going to pay me 3,306 CR for it; and I made sure to include in the contract that I can keep and sell any ships that I come across without pilots in them. I am expecting to be facing some more pirates in similarly classed ships to the Argonaut. If there is anything big, or they try to swarm me, I am going to go running for the nearest station and hide!

Slightly wrong about my foes. These are Xenon. The only ships I have seen are their N-class ships, which I have been told over the local communications channels are considered M5 class ships. I should be okay.

The ship I engaged was all alone and chasing down a civilian ship. I lined up on it and started firing everything I had at it, and then it just shut off... A little confused, I got close and hopped out of the Argonaut and saw that I could claim it if I wanted to. I did, and then it blew up...apparently the nearby Centaur didn't get the memo that I could keep anything that I found without a pilot!!! >:[

That was the only Xenon ship here in Red Light, and I was soon told to head south into CBSW to start my patrol there. Maybe the military ships there will be nicer to my new acquisitions.

So, I got into CBSW and the only Xenon within range of my scanners is already under attack! Good news and bad news to this one. Good news first though; the N managed to make the pilot of a Discoverer bail from his ship, which I promptly claimed. Bad news; I didn't get the kill of that N. I only have one more shot to get a kill this patrol so hopefully I will get into Emperor Mines before any military ships show up and try to ruin my party. I sent the Discoverer over to the CBSE shipyard to get dismantled and resold as scrap parts. I should get at least a little out of it, probably way more than this entire patrol can give me as payment.

Cool! I get another opportunity to take out a Xenon in this sector! I see one on the very edge of my scanner's range at around 30 km away. Forgot to mention that the Discoverer I claimed had a Triplex Scanner on board which I jettisonned and added to the Argonaut. I am racing toward the N, and it seems to be racing toward me...this might be bad...

WHEW! It wasn't targetting me with those cannons it has. A military ship came up behind me and overtook me in the race to the N and got itself targeted. I swung around to draw a bead on it and managed to get it killed off, and snagged a bonus of 308 CR to tack onto my end-of-patrol payment amount. Now, on to Emperor Mines!

Hrmm, mission over. Seems they just wanted me to get into this sector so we could all regroup, take a breather, and get our checks. Well, I guess that's okay. Really glad that I got that single kill back in CBSW. My employer just told me that if I hadn't managed to kill "one of those damned toasters," his words not mine, that I would have only been paid for the fuel it took me to run around the sectors.

I run around the sector for a little while to fill out my information on it and then I see it. There is a Buster Vanguard sitting still with no shields and just 40 percent hull integrity (I love how the ship's computer can tell me neat information like that about other ship's state of repair) so I get closer. I jump out of the Argonaut and see it's derelict, so I claim it and start firin' my in-suit repair laser at it. The Paranid don't like me to much at the moment. Not because of anything that I have done to them, but because I am an Argonian and they have been having an ongoing war for a long while now. Once I patch up the Buster to full hull integrity I hop in, jettison all of the equipment from the Argonaut, and then send the Argonaut to the CBSW shipyard to be turned into scraps of metal and wiring. This Buster can go a blazing 89 m/s...-_- Compared to the Argonaut's speed, this is so very slow...but the Paranid Trading Dock here in Emperor Mines doesn't seem to have a problem with me docking and buying up some upgrades so going to go do just that. It's 20.5 km away from me though, so this is going to be a slow ride. I do have some luck though, as the Discoverer I "found" arrived at the shipyard to get sold just a little bit before I could dock at the Trading Station. It will look better for me to come in with some cash instead of having to wait for a check to clear, so to speak. I sell the Discoverer for scrap for a little under 45,000 CR from the Buster's market information screen. I should probably name this thing. Let's see, I am going to name it after an old mythological warboat called a Trireme, since right now it steers and flies like a boat.

Urggh, external docking clamps? At a trading station? How barbaric is that? I guess I shouldn't complain though, since they are allowing me to dock despite not liking my racial traits very much. Getting into the Mechanic's Bay, I talk to someone about upgrades for the Trireme. I get as many upgrades as possible for the engine and steering, and spend the rest of it on as many Cargo Compression Stabalizers as I can afford. This brings me up to my maximum speed of 193.4 m/s, maximum acceleration and steering, and up to 63 units of Medium container space. I think this will do for now...it will have to. I am once again back down to 155 CR. That will change once the Argonaut gets to the shipyard to be sold, but until then maybe I should go try to find another job to do.

CHAPTER 3: Freebies

Okay, first thing's first. Gotta see what I can do around here to get up to par on my shielding and weaponry. Considering I have only 155 credits at the moment I guess I will have to make due with what I have. The Paranid consider me an Unholy Nomad at the moment, which I guess is bad but not very bad. Soon the Argonaut will be turned into scrap and then I will have some cash to throw around to get an upgrade to my shield emitters. Right now they are only working at about 20% optimal, delivering 3MJ of shielding when they can deliver 15MJ at best. The Argonaut is in Ore Belt right now, and with its speed upgrades will be shortly passing into CBSE and the shipyard there. I think that I will head back north to CBSW and see if I can do anything for wayward Paranid up there to get my reputation with them to trickle in the upward direction while I work out how to get more money from the stodgy Argonians.

An Argonian at the CBSW Cahoona Bakery M Gamma lets me know about an impending pirate strike and offers me the job of fending off the aggressors. He offers me a little more than 1k CR so I accept. A single pirate comes through the north gate in a Discoverer and then meets my quad-cannons of IRE fire, netting me my payment and a small bonus for killing him off. Another bonus is that I am now a Trusted Ally to the Argonians. Seems the Argon Federation is extremely easy to please; maybe it is their lack of competant military personel who would rather ram an asteroid head on or cause private property damage with Federation ships that is the issue. There is nothing else happening here in CBSW so I will go north into Red Light. On my way to the north gate I see that the Argonaut has gotten to the Shipyard and a quote has been sent to me for approval before they start stripping it of usable parts. They are willing to give me just under 56k CR for it! That's much more than I thought I would get, so I promptly accept their sample contract and sign using a quick electronic signature (ie. my thumbprint).

In Red Light I check out the prices for shield upgrades. It will cost me about 17k CR per shield emitter to upgrade them from 1MJ each to 5MJ each, but that's just with the mail in rebates. It will actually cost me 22k CR each and then I have to send them the old 1MJ shields and get reimbursed for them at average sale price. I can afford to get two of them now, but I will send in all three of my 1MJ shields and then get the third emitter later on.

After getting all three 5MJ emitters up and running, and scrapping the three 1MJ emitters, I find that I still have enough to buy a single additional IRE from the local equipment dock. A quick trip later I have it and get it mounted into the fifth gun emplacement on the main battery. I also buy a slight upgrade to my cargo compression matrix to allow for two more units of cargo to be squeezed into the ship. All this leaves me with just 56 credits, enough to buy a stiff drink and a steak. But not hungry right now, other than for more money, so going to see what I can find to do!

I see there is a Paranid Military Transport here in Red Light. Not sure what sort of joke is being played on the pilot but I intend to be its punchline. The Argonians and Paranid are at war with one another, so a Paranid Military Transport should not have ever gotten out of CBSW, let alone halfway through Red Light.

The target has its full possible amount of shielding of 125MJ. That's good because otherwise it would be a pretty poor Military Transport. I am not sure what sort of weapon is has mounted in the rear turret but I'm pretty sure that I can handle whatever it throws at me. It can equip a single of the following: Impulse Ray Emitter (not a threat to me anymore), Particle Accelerator Cannon (sorta a threat since I have not been hit by one before, I think), and Fragmentation Bomb Launcher (a threat if I get hit head on but otherwise probably not going to be an issue). My tactic for the moment is going to be a head-on rush at it so that I am not having to try to dodge its turret fire all the time and that will let me keep a bead on it for as long as possible before having to turn away. At about 75% hull integrity it launched fighter drones! I immediately began running away to figure out a plan, then the drones were on me. I started dodging left and right, up and down, and turning all sorts of ways to get a bead on each one in turn. It worked out quite well in my favor with all of them expiring before my shields dropped below 50% mitigation. The Military Transport once again became my target once all of the drones were taken care of. It put up a bit of a fight though, even hitting me a few times with its, what I figured out to be, Fragmentation Bomb Launcher. I guess I got too close to it and paid the price. My shields held constantly at around 60% while I was getting hit, and I slowly whittled my way through the target's shields again and bit into its hull. It did not do anything that I wanted of it though. Firstly, I wanted it to drop some of its freight which was likely to be weapon laden. Secondly, I wanted the pilot to either die in the cockpit or bail out because he valued his life. Neither happened and I ended up destroying the ship, possible valuable wares and all. Didn't even leave anything for me to salvage, selfish jerk!

So, I got no salvage from the freighter and my reputation amongst the Paranid dropped a little. They think of me as a Tainted Wanderer now. I kinda like the sound of that, but I doubt that they will be very receptive of me if I go back down into Emperor Mines again. Even if they are willing to not shoot me on sight they will probably not let me dock, so I have to repair it a little up here in Argon space first. I am going to head up north now to see what is going on in Ringo Moon. Haven't been there before so it will do me some good to explore a little more and get my sector maps filled out. More stations known to me the more likely I will be to get a job from a Paranid to repair my reputation.

Right before I run through the northern gate I see a group of pirate ships. A Mamba Raider, two Busters, and a Buzzard. It looks like a nice little attack group, but the Heavy Centaur bearing down on it looks to have a different idea as to what a good attack group is. I sit back and watch the fireworks, hoping that one or more of the pilots value their lives. The Buzzard pilot bails out but the rest of them are destroyed, leaving behind a little salvage for me to pick up: a Banshee missile and a Wasp missile. Both of those will be useful to me later when I get into a fight. I run up and claim the Buzzard and start fixing it up for scrapping and see that it has a 1MJ shield on board. I think I will grab that shield and hold onto it for sale later on by itself, since it is a pretty nice piece of technology and will fetch a pretty good price at an equipment dock. It takes only a few minutes to fix up the Buzzard, and then I send it to the Argon Prime shipyard for deconstruction. I hope I can get a decent price for it. It should get me at least double what I got for the Argonaut since it is a class above it, but I don't know. Not really expecting much from it. Time for me to head up through to Ringo Moon again!

At the Cattle Ranch L Gamma in Ringo Moon I get a request to patrol against Xenon activities. They are willing to pay quite a bit for the privalege of employing me, so I say fine, why not?

Three Xenon ships, all N class, show up in the south-east quadrant of the sector several kilometers away from me. Well, 15km actually but 15 is part of several no? Well, a few police ships are harassing them and probably getting the worse end of it since there are only two police and three Ns. They should survive long enough for me to get over there and give the Xenon what-for. I shot the Wasp missile I salvaged earlier to take out one of the Ns and shot the other two down using my, now Penta-strength'd, IRE battery. Turns out those three were the only Xenon invading. Got paid just over 29k credits for the job though, and barely broke a sweat! Now I might be able to go and get another IRE, or maybe a Particle Accelerator Cannon(PAC), like what those Xenon Ns were PACking...oh that's a horrible pun, haha. For the meantime, while waiting for the Buzzard to be turned into scrap, I will head north again. This time I will be going to Cloudbase North West, CBNW for short.

The Buzzard got to the shipyard sooner than I thought it would, and the price quote for getting it scrapped is 174,250 credits going my way. That is a lot better than just double the scrap price of the Argonaut! I apply my thumbprint to the e-contract and send it on its way. I am now sitting, for the first time ever, above 200 thousand credits! I think I am going to go find a bar and celebrate! Once I get into CBNW that is. Gotta get where I gotta go before any celebrating, otherwise I will forget where I am going and why!

I see another Paranid freighter, this time a Fresh Meat Transporter, traveling through CBNW. It is heading for the Cattle Ranch L alpha, I guess to stock up on supplies? I am going to take this opportunity to see how patient I am, and wait until it grabs some of that Argnu Beef before I attack it. Maybe this pilot will bail out. Then I will have free steaks and a free ship to sell off for some more money!

While I am waiting for that freighter to disembark from the Cattle Ranch I see coming out of the north gate a fresh foods supplier, also Paranid, running on its way for a Cahoona Bakery. This one, since it is on its way to the bakery, is probably already full up of Argnu Beef and will be a better target for now. As soon as I take away its shields he sends a few fighter drones after me. Only three this time so it was much more manageable. Only got hit a few times and those scratches barely made the shield emitters flinch. After taking care of the drones I turned my attention back to the freighter and piled on the firepower as hard as I could. At 43% hull integrity the pilot bailed, and I gained a new ship. After claiming it I see that all it has onboard is its turret weapon, a Fragmentation Bomb Launcher (FBL for short). I look at some information on it and see that it is an obscenely expensive weapon, and will fetch me 202,564 credits from an equipment dock when I sell it. It is a bit on the bulky side, however, taking up five units of space. I send it on to the Argon Prime shipyard without fixing it up any. It would, for one, take far too long to fix up manually. I will get two quotes this time when it gets to the shipyard. First will be how much I can sell it for scrap, the second will be how much it will cost to fix up to proper running condition. It doesn't have any shields on it, so I will have to figure out how much its shields would cost and add that to my "repair" charges as well. For now though, I think I have done pretty good for myself and will go drink a bit at the bar in the local Trading Station. Scratch that, that first Paranid freighter I was looking at just undocked and none too soon at that! I am going to try and get the pilot to bail from it too. Maybe it will keep its weapon as well. A PAC I hope, so I can get at least one decently powerful gun into the last gun-mount on my Trireme.

It was a lackluster fight right from the start. As soon as his shields were down he jetisonned some of his cargo, but wouldn't drop more when I asked him nicely. But, he did jump out of the cockpit for me when he got down to 45% hull integrity. It doesn't have any sort of software on board so I can't tell the computer to remotely pick up the dropped Argnu Beefs, so I jump into the cockpit briefly to get it inside before getting back into the Trireme. These will be sold along with the ship as is, unless I can find a Cahoona Bakery that just so happens wants exactly the amount of Argnu that I am carrying. Now, it is time for me to go drink. A few extra drinks will be gotten in recognition of getting two Paranid freighters within just a few minutes!

Hope you enjoy'd the first three chapters! Let me know if it is too much detail, too little detail, boring, interesting, etc. Oh, yes, comments on the formatting also? I think the length of the paragraphs might need some work with the way they look on my screen, which is really really small. But I dunno, so I will let the readers decide that one.

Guess I'll go first then.

The story is looking good so far. A liiiiiittle dry at first, but then again I think we all know how glacial the pace can be when you're just getting started. Keep it up :)

Detail level's good, but if you absolutely want to change it I'd rather go with fewer details than more.

Formatting also looks pretty good, especially the first and second chapter. You probably don't want to make them any longer than the second last paragraph of the third chapter to avoid the old wall o' text-feeling.

A tip: Try and make it one chapter per post, with an asset list at the end. At least for me it looks kind of messy with asset lists and such in the middle of the text, and I also feel it disrupts the flow of the text. A minor detail, but I'm told that's where the devil is hiding ;)

Other than that it looks like good stuff.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am :D

Yeah I wasn't really planning to do more than one chapter at a time, but for an opening post I thought I would just post what I had to get it past the glacial section. I think I will continue to write the chapters up as I have but keep them in larger blocks of two or three hour spans instead of the >=1 hour blocks the first three had. I will also be doing some story editing and try to make it more readable. It will definitely get more interesting, at least to me, once I start getting CODEA pilots to "interact" with.

Thanks for the feedback, will try to post the next chapter in a day or so!
