Activating the galaxy editor in the European version

Post by Miths123 »

Reading the other editor thread on this page I thought I would give it a try and downloaded the X2 1.2 Patcher from Xscripting.

It does not seem too happy with the prepatched (1.2) European version of the game (claims it is in fact not v1.2), so I assume I will have to patch it.
Question is, since there is no patch for the EU version, should I just go ahead and use the 1.2 US patch? I could just give it a try of course, but if I can get an educated answer I would rather save myself the trouble of going through a reinstall in case it messes up the game :).

The Euro/UK versions are already patched to 1.2.

And to get the editor...
The Script Editor

The script editor aka "Manual Ship Computer Interface" (M.S.C.I.) is an in-game tool to create/modify AI behaviour rules and also allows creating/modifying objects in the game universe.
These features mean it is very powerful and when not used carefully can seriously damage your game universe.
As many of you have already found out using the Script Editor can spoil all the fun of the game!

While work on a documentation continues please note that with the editor being released earlier than planned script writing and accompanied problems are NOT supported by Egosoft or any betatesters. Until the official release of the documentation you are on your own.

The official documentation is estimated to be complete in January 2004.

If you are certain that you want to use this unsupported feature type Thereshallbewings (note the capital T) while flying in space to activate the "Script Editor" menu item in the command console. A confirmation beep will sound on correct activation.

Note that the publication of the Script Editor access code by no means forces you to use it. The editor is an advanced and most importantly optional feature.
If you are not into script programming of any sort you are probably better off without it.
Stolen from the Sticky script editor thread ;)

I think he's looking for the Galaxy Editor, not the script editor. :)

Yep, the Galaxy Editor.
Apparantly the "patcher" that makes a slight modification to the X2.exe and activates the Galaxy Editor does not recognize the European X2 as a "true" v1.2. Probably because it is not "flagged" as patched, since the EU version was not updated by Egosoft with a patching program like the end-user does - or some other pseudo-technical crap I know very little about :).

Anyway - the new X-news 13 mentions that EU users with copy protection issues can patch it manually, so I assume that means using the US 1.2 patch.
I may just wait for 1.3 instead and see what wonders it brings. X2 will most likely stay on my HD for a looong time to come anyway.
