Enclosed Spacecraft Cockpit

Post by Capt.Mayne »

Hey everyone. Thought I'd share my work on what I hope will be a pretty awesome space simulator cockpit. I started construction two months ago, it is a fully enclosed "cockpit" with a 42" plasma as the screen, as well as a secondary monitor for gauges/maps and an Ipad running maxivista (allows a 3rd screen). I've drawn from several existing cockpit designs, although I've never seen someone build a large scale fully enclosed "spacecraft" cockpit so I thought it would be a cool idea. Like a real smart guy, I didn't make any cad or design plans so it's all on the fly.

Looking good! Great to see another cockpit project! One of those pics looks like a star wars game. Is that X-wing Alliance?

TIE Fighter, good guess though, XWA is in there though! Yeah I was sort of benchmarking with all kinds of games, although I will mainly be playing Freelancer Discovery, X3TC, and Evochron Mercenary. Although I did spend about 4 hours the other night "testing" TIE Fighter! :)

I've got some of the foam board sheets to build the enclosure, and a couple of the Saitek cockpit instrument panels for flight simming, but it turns out I need to upgrade my computer if I want more screens and instruments to work with it, so at the moment I'm saving up, to upgrade to a better computer, then I'll be able to get the extra instruments and panels, and then I'll be able to assemble my enclosure :)
