when are we geting info on the galaxy editor...

is the galaxy editor out yet?

I want to make my own X universe up. :cry:

It's out, though not officially supported :D , so what!
Back-up your game first. Download X2 1.2 Patcher from the xscripting.com mods section. It's zipped ith Winrar, but that's a free download as well (search for it). Unpack it and read the read me. It's really not very complicated, though it may look it at first. :)

What can you do with the galaxy editor? How much does it actually let you edit...

Just about anything. The backgound color;planets; suns; nebula;asteroids, incluing what type and yield :D ; stations, existing and new ones you can add, you can even edit products and resourses; ship, add new one and/or edit what they carry; you can move anything to anyplace in the sector including gates; create new gates, destroy gates, stations or whatever. I've probably left some things out, but I've only spent a couple of hours with it.
What can't you do with it: I don't think you can edit the economy or ai tactics. :(

Can you edit ships owned by NPC factories? Or is that kind of thing dynamic.

mabey i am a little on the blonde side but i cant get that galaxy editor to work, i have followed the directions in the "x2.v1.2.patcher", extracted the appropiate file to the maps dir, edited the 440001.xml, repacked the 440001.xml to pck and then to 04.cat/dat (except the maps dir), applied the patch, all to no avail.

i have a option in the menu called "Galaxy Editor", and can even select the map to edit, but after selecting map to edit i "hang" and have to (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and end the task, even if i choose new game it still "hangs", is the above file patcher for version 1.2? (which is what i have), and what should be in the (galaxy_edit.zip) (06.cat & 06.dat)?

within those 2 files is a "l" dir with an "x2story.obj" file, is this correct?

ne1 have any ideas :?

Have you unpacked the x2 universe.pck file in the maps folder?

yeah but still hangs, drat i was looking forward to some serious fun,
mabey it dont like this athalon cpu or something?

How easy is the galaxy editor to use? ....i got some really wicked ideas on how to mod this game. :D

Considering there is ZERO documentation on it, I think it's easier to use than it was trying to figure out how to play X2. :D

I think you should try again to get it working, it took me 4 attempts to get it right.

I can't seem to find "X2 1.2 Patcher" from that web site you sent me, loged in and all...any where else i can get it?

<edit> My mistake, i found it...was looking in the wrong bit lol. :D

ok so i downloaded it and it only downloaded 3k....damn frigen thing arghh! ....now it still says im not registered and wont let me log in using Netscape. That must log in to download sh!@it really P!$@S me off.
Why me... It wont download with Internet explorer for some reason.

Any where else i can get this thing ....

you only need that patcher, i discovered this as well, and i finally got it working, after i reinstalled the 1.2 update (i guess it likes virgin files), as i modified the 02 cat and dat.

just run that patcher in the root dir, extract from 03.cat (tools are on the link below) the x2_universe.pck, extract from the x2_universe.pck the x2_universe.xml, place the extracted .xml in a directory called maps, fire up the game and choose "INTRO", and select the map to edit (x2_universe).

woot new :idea: on the way :wink:

Argh!!!!!!!!!!! when i extract the file all it has is 2 files the exe file and the read me, where is these files i must put in maps folder i been trying to find them for ageezzzzzzzzzz!!!! why does this have to be rocket science!!!!!!

These are the files i cant find :

"extract and unpack the X²universe.pck from 02.cat to the maps folder."

<edit> Ok i think ive figured it out now those files are in the x folder. :D

is the galaxy editor the same as the script editor? because you can place planetsa, suns, nebulae, stations, gates etc. etc. etc. in the script editor too...

well i cant say i didnt try i tried for hours getting this thing working, and in the end it said not patched to 1.2 or some bs...easy yeah right, i wont be touching this untill patch 1.3 is out with some documentation cause this is just to darn hard to work out. ARGGGGh!!@@@

It would have been really cool if they made the NPC world more dynamic. From other postings, it sounds like what the AI starts out with, thats it. No new factories, don't use new weapons on the market... It'd be nice to add new ships/weapons to the game then start seeing them in use by the AI navies.
