How to register DVD superbox with Steam

Post by farrel »

Hi all.

I feel like I'm missing something.

Steam keeps telling my my product code is invalid and that valid keys are in the form of

1111-22222-3333
AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE
237ABCDGHJLPRST 23

All I seem to have is a community key in the form of

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

It's very clearly printed, but I've tried various combinations of easily misenterpreted characters...

Is there something I'm missing?

Sorry if this is a repeat of a post elsewhere, had some trouble with the forums too.

I just got a reply from steam support saying:
Thank you for contacting Steam Support. We apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, this is not a valid Steam CD Key. Please follow the link below for information: Title: Retail CD Keys Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_arti ... -WUSF-3601 If you have any further questions, please let us know.
It is the cd key on the little folder we get we are supposed to use right?

It's not a CD key you're supposed to be using, no. It's the code you used to register your game on this forum.

In that case, if the code we receive with the superbox cannot be used to register on Steam, what should we do? If I remember well, it was stated that all copies of Terran Conflict could be registered on Steam so those included in the superbox should be included in that statement, no?

If we receive a code to register on this site, does that mean that a proper serial will be sent to us so we can use steam functionnalities with the superbox? Quite frankly, it would be sad to have bought the boxed version of the said superbox and be missing some features on one of the games...

Perhaps I am missing something, of course but some explanations would be appreciated.

I think you're a little confused by what I said. There is no "CD key" for the game, and if you're trying to use one you've found somewhere on a CD or whatever to register on Steam then that would be why you are having a problem. There is however a registration code that you used to register your game here; that code can be used to register on Steam.

There was previously an issue with some codes not working (as per my reply to the very first post in this thread) but this has now been resolved. This may be the cause of the confusion!

Original poster here...

I'm still having some trouble with this. Again, the community key provided in the boxed set is causing an "invalid key" from steam.

Do I understand that the issue has been resolved? In which case, I -am- doing something wrong.

I own two copies of terran conflict, though. One original and one superbox (yes, I bought it twice!)

Does steam only enhance terran conflict? or is there some other benefit for the other games in the set? If there's no difference, I'll try with my other copy.

I managed to register my copy of the superbox on Steam just last night, so it is possible. Be careful, the font is a little weird and it is possible to get it wrong, for instance "7" looks confusingly like "?". There are ONLY letters and numbers, plus the hyphens which MUST be entered. No special symbols or punctuation marks. Don't sorry about case, as Steam forces to upper case, so leave shift and caps lock alone.

When I registered, Steam recognised that I had already installed a Steam copy of Terran Conflict and didn't try to download it again! (It had been updated to the latest version a couple of days ago.)

Good to hear though kind of indirectly that it is now working on Steam

And you get all the superbox games on steam after registering or just X3TC?
