Yaki Warfare (A, post your thoughts verse' conquering thread)

Post by MarineMan »

Since my last story ended abruptly I have enginnered a new one.

These are the scripts used;

Marine repairs-Tatakau
NPC bailing addon-ThisIsHarsh (set at 30%)
The Marauder Shipyard-Teladidrone (Nice mod, offering extra ships, stations and supertuning.) Edit: and really expensive PHQ's
The Travelling Mechanic- Teladidrone (another non game changing mod that is truly handy)
RRF (Race response fleets) 2.1-Lord Vader

Plus all of Cycrow’s managers. Plus a few lib.

Also

Pirate Guild-Serial Kicked (set to insane)

Yaki Armada-Serial Kicked (set to normal)

Pirate Starts-TEKing66 (Yaki grunt start was used)
-----------------------------------------------------

This is NOT A DiD game it is simply a story made by playing through the game.

However I have limited myself to only station saving which means no salvage insurance.

This thread is designed for coments on how you would (or have) conquered the universe/lots o' systems.

It is here as much for the benefit of new players who have just got their first destroyer. To others who own entire quadrants.

I would like to experiment with new techniques and learn what others have learned.

Oh and there will likley be some interactive qaulity to the story. Join in if you want, or you can post a name for a capital ship, a stategy etc. I want this to showcase the experience of as many people as possible. And yes that means positive and negative.

Edit: well i pretty much changed everything including the direction this thread is going.

“So here I am, In Senator’s Badlands.”

Hanging in space next to the largest concentration of Yaki ships he’d ever seen would have made Tommy Varakand cringe once…. Now they were just friendly blue blips on the Gravidar. One more change in his life which played out like one of the ancient Tradgedies.

His parents had died when he was 15 due to a radiation leak on a trading station and he had been left in charge of his 10 year old brother. With his older sister already out exploring the universe and most of his relatives too busy to care he had done the only thing he knew how; he had flown.

It had been almost a year since he had left the OTAS security force but looking back he didn’t regret it. Cpt. Triller had been a bigot and an idiot.
Tommy knew this from the moment he met Triller, but not due to any in-tangible feeling about Triller (Tommy didn’t have the ability to judge character at a glance) but due to something very solid very simple. Triller had taken a single look at Tommy’s record and downgraded him from commander to Lieutenant. So what if Tommy had gotten drunk six years ago? Triller wouldn’t have cared if it had been a parking ticket; he didn’t want a promising officer anywhere near his bridge. So Triller assigned him to the Marines as liaison. It became Tommy’s job to participate in large scale boarding operations; more specifically it was his job to take command of the captured ship until a replacement bridge crew could be brought aboard.

Tommy fit into the new post well and proved to be adept at marksmanship and engineering though the complex computer hacking was far beyond him. After a few successful boarding operations (mostly against unescorted pirate m6s) Triller decided to assault a pirate Carrack which had been preying on OTAS shipping for some weeks. The crew hunted it down before crossing paths in Nopelios’ Memorial.

Tommy sat in his boarding pod with four other marines and watched the stats on the Carracks shields drop to 37% it was then that Triller launched the first four pods. In his eagerness for a capture he sent twenty Hardened Marines to their death as they did little more than scratch the paint job on the Carrack.

Before the screams of those good men had died away though Tommy felt his pod accelerate and head straight for the Carrack it was just his pod and pod 6 closing on the carrack. The moments had been tense as Tommy watched the stats on the Carrack’s shields and the distance to target shrink all to quickly.

27%, 5km

17%, 3km

12%, 800m

9%, 10m

The hit had been bone rattling and had killed two marines in pod six but they had made it through… barely.

That was only the start however as Tommy and the seven other marines soon discovered. The fight to the computer core was brutal with three of their number falling before they arrived and another as they reached the Core. Finally though the ship had been taken and cleared of hostiles with Tommy and three marines left breathing heavily and nursing grazes.

Tommy didn’t have to consult with the other men he had fired up the Carrack’s jumpdrive and made a beeline for the nearest Teladi shipyard. There they sold the carrack and lived quite happily as pirates for several months before Triller caught up with their m6.

After that engagement Tommy was the only one left and he just managed to jump away before the last of the hull lost integrity. He had limped into Yaki space and signed up selling the battered Osprey and purchasing a Yaki Tenjin.

And that is what got him where he was today; sitting in space watching the Raiding parties jump to parts unknown. The pain was still great but not unbearable anymore. His brother was off flying for the Argon as a mercenary pilot and his sister was working as a diplomat for the Argon Government. And what is it he was doing? Well for the moment he was just sitting here; time to change that.

He swung the Tenjin to the South and headed for Weaver’s Tempest….

1 month later.......

"And what do you call these again?" querried Tommy.

"They're called strawberries," replied Jackson.

"Hmm well they sure are good," said Tommy as he eyed the vacuum sealed package clutched under his arm.

"Enjoy them on your trip down south Tommy, I look forward to seeing you back here soon. Remember you and the Nightshade are welcome back at Earth anytime."

The two said their farewells and Tommy began the long trek to the docking bay where his ship was birthed.

His tired legs were a testament to the sheer size of Terran stations. and this particular station the Tauras was the biggest he had seen so far. It really was incredible that the Terrans could fit his ship inside their station.

And there she was the Nightshade a Titan class destroyer at full complement. With a jet black paintjob and supertuned engines she was his pride and joy.

Edit: please read the Fist post again if you have already read it without the Edit

Do to popular demand (and by that i mean one post. -thank you dreis-) i'm back.

-------------------------------------

So much later that the old narrator got tired and we had to hire a new one.....

From the bridge of the Nightshade Tommy gazed out at the distant construction effort located in Weaver's Tempest. Enhanced views would show a swarm of construction drones and suited mechanics but from here only the superstructure of the massive complex was visible. In the foreground the oddly shaped PHQ sat in its uselessness, at least for the moment, and gently strolling towards the construction site cruised the bulk of his Ryu. Tommy had only one thing on his mind...

"How's the 'plex going?"

"Fine sir, most of the crystal fabs are in place and the other production facilities will be on line in a day. The solar power plants have been tied up do to red tape on the Teladi end. But all in all in about a month the shipyard should have full production capabilities."

*sigh* "This is taking too long what's the hold up?"

"Its the fact we only have the one Ryu hauling stations sir. Plus we really don't know the exact amount of resources that we'll need for ship production, new estimates show we might have enough resources to power two of these shipyards when the construction is finished but only time will tell."

"Well nothing we can do here then. Warm up the PPC's we'll raise the money for the next PHQ then."

The crewman looked flustered, "In- in a single afternoon sir?"

Tommy smiled wrily, "Perhaps optimisticly, but I doubt we'll raise the full 194 mil by the end of the day. I quess we technically have the money in the budget for it now but I've never been one for floor management so fire up the engines! I hear the Kha'ak are acting up."

"Aye sir course layed in for North Gate."

Tommy selected the eventual destination and decided they would make a casual stroll ,destroying any enemy contacts, through about twenty sectors and then jump home.

"Just like any other day." He thought.

now I understand why you said that this wouldn't be a normal DiD..

Looks like you are becoming a very wealthy yaki.. :D

I tried to start as a yaki lowlife.. but it is pretty damn hard to get weapons and upgrades when almost all other races are your enemy.. except maybe the teladis? (Profitzzzzzzzzzzzz) :D

Even though I'm using the Yaki Armada2 and Pirate Guid 3.. they made my life a little easier.. but still.. hard as hell :P

Oh yes it is real hard :(

But i found it realy rewarding. :) There will be periodic flashbacks to my days in the Tenjin. Because I spent alot of cockpit time in it and it was fun. Realy fun. Just me and the machine.

Anyway as a side note I haven't completed the HUB or HQ plot yet but the PHQ in the story came form the Marauder and costs roughly 194 mill. Oh and the support station being built costs roughly 200 mil :D neadless to say I'm using virtually all the roids in Weaver's Tempest.

: and laslty "ALL HAIL THE YAKI!"

No not really. My best guess would be RRF? But I can't be sure. I mean all my other saves made it modded or not. I just don't see the rhyme or reason?!?!?
