Hi all, new to forum but I've played both X3 games for some time, I put X3TC down for a while and recently came back to it, I've decided I might give DiD a go, and try to post it up, now I've never done an AAR before so I can't promise great literature but before I get started I need some ground rules and goals for it, and since I'm struggling that's where you lot come in! What I have so far is the following:
Start: Terran Defender (unmodified)
DiD
which isn't much: my intention was to play as terran specops operating deep cover so I'm also thinking of the following:
Terran ships only (can't risk transmission interception) Other ships can be capped but need to be sold at a terran shipyard for reverse engineering and no missions can be taken whilst in possesion of an non-terran ship.
Trading restrictions: No player trading with the Paranid (classified as terran enemies according to the wiki), whilst I won't be able to necessarily stop UTs from heading into paranid space or NPC paranid traders from stopping at my stations I'll try to avoid this where possible.
No paranid or pirate missions (i.e. from paranid ships/stations or "from the paranid government)
Pirate trading acceptable but to be kept to a minimum and only in commonwealth territory(mostly for Cargo Life support since I can never find it otherwise)
Repair laser only on Personal ship or "retrive ship missions"
Other than that I'm stuck so I need feedback on the above and ideas for what a good set of goals would be, bear in mind I'm not the best X3 player out there so try not to make it too hard! Goals are my priority but additional rules or feedback on my suggestions are also needed! Thanks in advance
Need some ideas for a DiD game

Sound like a good idea.
I would suggest setting some short term goals a a long term goal...such as reverse engineering X races ships at the PHQ which means first getting the PHQ and then reverse engineering captured ships.
As for no trading with the paranid if you have the latest version of X3:TC UT's avoid hostile sectors quite efficiently barring a few small incidents whenn they run out of fuel so as long as you have them set as enemy or just piss them off beforehand they it should be alright.
Or you can slug it through Terran sectors to sell them.
Just keep it achievable

Choose your goals carefully. Some of the plots will require you to trade or dock with the Paranid and only the Paranid sell tractor beams.

Terran only games r a lot harder to set rules, u should be allowed some allowances like argon chip plants and maybe one argon minatour m7m, if its lost then its gone forever
U using steam? if so id wait to start ur did when 3.0 comes out so u can get the did gamestart.
also there are some missions which require non terran ships, a TM is one example, so u should be able to borrow one then sell it after the mission
here are some good standard rules:
No cloning (will increase difficulty since ur terran massively)
No derelict ship caps
No niv mining exploiting
No apologizing exploit when capping ships
No police licenses (since ur terran)
good luck

Thanks for the input so far! I think I have the rules sorted now, whilst I won't use all of them it has been helpful to see different suggestions, and I'm starting to get a shape on the goals.
you_rebel_scum I'm not sure what you mean when you say "no cloning", could you clarify?
and to clarify my intention was that there wasn't a limit on buying stations, just ships (it's a bit of a fudge but I figure if the terrans want to trade with the commonwealth they could build their own variants of other races stations)
I think you're right about needing an exclusion for plot purposes so if a specific ship or station is needed for a plot I'll allow that but sell the ship off afterwards as suggested.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

cloning = its a bug where u can replicate weapons when u buy more than one ship at a time, its useful when that weapon or ware is rare, the terran weps for example. Im not gonna explain how but theres plenty of posts about it if u look around. I'm not too bothered about it when u consider the fact that u can buy as many osakas as u want but can't buy enough psp's for even one.
