Laser Towers

Are laser towers going to be availiable in X2
are they going to have better AI
e.g. Shoot unfriendly targets avoid shooting friendly targets

I have noticed in XT if you have say 2 laser towers directly in front of a jump gate and stay in the sector they will pretty much destroy every unfriendly target that comes through the jumpgate instantly (providing you assign them to a factory you have in that sector)
however no matter how many you have (I have had up to 12) if you leave the sector silly things happen like two of them get taken out buy a pirate manderly or a xennon N
have you ever tried taking out a laser tower with a xennon N or manderly its seriously difficult if not impossible I hope that this feature is cleared up in X2 if laser twers are still availiable :rant: over

Lots of people have commented on the AI so I can't see it being ignored for X2

As to whether Laser Towers are in X2 or not - wait and see, you might be surprised... :D

You're making the assumption that the AI is the same in other sectors than it is in the current one. It isn't. There is no manoeuvring or firing in remote sectors; as far as I know, all that happens is that two hostile ships which are within range compare their shield and laser values (the numbers you see after the weaponry on a ship) and use some sort of semi-random calculation to determine the outcome of the battle. It is therefore entirely possible for a large group of pirate ships to come through the gate and for the lasertower to take enough damage for it to get blown up, and since the ship which actually fired the fatal blast is credited with the kill, you get situations like Mandalays taking out lasertowers.

Ahhhh! that goes some way to explaining it however I have watched a single maderlay on its own take out two of my towers so I assume the random factor can swing things quite a way or some battles :o
