Backup copies??

Post by hyjaax »

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I posted anything as I've been taking a break from the X-Universe . . .but now I'm back in it playing again and still pushing asteroids into factories!! :D (if you've been around long enough you know what I mean!!)

Anyways I have run across a few games during my break that I can no longer play as the disks have been damaged and I cringe at the thought of my XGold disk no longer working one day!! So I need to ask has anyone been able to make a successful backup copy for themselves so that this tragedy could be avoided??

If so please reply and let me know the best way to make a backup copy of my XGold so that i won't have to worry if time decides to destroy a disk one day!

Thanks!

Ask EGO/write a letter to them, that your CD is damaged, and u will get a new one (but u have to pay something for it)

Or buy a new Xgold

When u have to pay for your faults,u better learn not to do faults.

my xgold is not damaged . . .i just wanted to know if anyone has had luck making a successful backup copy of xgold . . .we are entitled to make backup copies of programs which we own . . . i have no desire to spend another $50 on something that i already own . . and xgold is no longer being published so it's not really possible to order another one.

You have the right to make backup copies of your games. Protection is a pain in the ar*e - having to have the cd in to play etc. Some games even insist on you having the original cd in the first cd drive on your system.

You can get replacement .exe files for these games which stop them looking for the protection on the originals. This means you can make backup copies and they work fine.

http://www.gamecopyworld.com is a good place to start. Also a search in google or something will find them. For instance...

civilization 3 nocd patch
x tension replacement exe

Backup but don't spread :) All inline with the law then.

not sure i understand

I looked at the website that you suggested and I saw a bunch of different updates and exes to download . . .I don't want to have to play the game without the cd and I don't want to risk getting some fishy no-cd exe to use in my game . . .I've been playing this game for a while and don't want to lose the games that I currently have saved . . .I just want to make a backup copy of my entire disk so that i can have a backup just in case!

Somewhere I read using something called Clone CD and I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck using that.

Thanks!

got a backup made!

Post by hyjaax »

hi everyone!
just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me make a backup of my xgold cd!! It works perfectly and there is no copy-protection kicking in! Everything in the game seems to run smooth as with the original cd and i was even able to install both xbtf and xt just fine!

For those who need to know how i did it . . .just get a copy of clonecd and you can use that to copy the disk! just image it to your hard drive first and then it will burn succesfully!!

Someone remind me later when I get a new CDRW to look this thread up and were to find cloneCD and how to do it.
I DO have a back-up copy of X-Gold and one is entitled to have a back-up of software
" One copy can be made for back up purposes on the same machine"
But like Hyjaxx I have a few games that can't be found anymore and I'd like to keep them.
So be good mates and remind me when I get a new CDRW and try doing this.
Cheers
