script prob; teladi auto 2.2c -> aus X2 1.2

Post by seldom »

i have the australian (!?!) version of X2, patched to 1.2. i have attempted to install the teladi auto trader 2.2c script, and after following the instructions several times and even reinstalling the game etc, i get the following problem.

when i select the trade command at the console, i get the correct command options ie auto trade. then i have to select a system on the universe map, then it goes to a menu with either a "null" option or a single hyphen.

what have i done wrong?

your ship needs a home factory that has cash, to bankroll with
and you need to select a starting sector and max # of jumps

if you aren't playing in english there won't be any language queues I think
No good deed goes unpunished.

If you're trying to auto-trade (option 5)
you have to specify 3 things
1. Sector to be "home"
2. How far away from home the ship is allowed to go
3. Log transactions in the player log or not

So for instance if you were in Argon Prime and wanted to trade only 1 sector away and not log, you'd select argon prime then hit enter, then 1 and enter then 0 and enter and away you go

If you try to use the import/export functions that ship _HAS_ to have a home station (that you own).

One last detail. Don't be in the ship that's auto-trading since it will never fully dock.

i theoretically know how to actually use the script, it's just the menus appear to be broken - menus come up as nothing but hyphens, or with the word "null" written in grey.

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure everything is where it's supposed to be?
The 440003.xml file in the t directory and all the others in the scripts directory? (simply unzipping the archive in the X2 directory will put the 440003.xml file in the right place, but the rest of the files will be in the x2 directory, not the scripts sub-directory.

Barring that though, the only time it should come up with "null" is if you try to use a function that requires a home-station without a home set on that ship (it would bring up a list of the resource to buy/sell otherwise based on the station type.)

Oh and you should be warned, you may (probably) will have your savegames grow to large sizes. Somehow the script is keeping all the trades information even if you don't have it written into the player log and all that useless information gets written into the savegame.
It won't be noticible if you have just a few ships auto-trading, but once you have a large fleet trading and supplying your stations, it will grow FAST.

My savegames made it up to 153 meg before I removed the Teladi scripts and switched to the Xai corp station scripts (no autotrader). No more growth, but they aren't getting smaller either.
