[X2] Repacking A Cat/Dat

Post by Lord Dakier »

Can it be done with doubleshadows X2 editor?

I made some changes to vanilla which I would like to test. Basically I have made M1, M2, M6 and TL class ships slower and changed their docking bay sizes. I'm trying to achieve a much more realistic style X2. The Python before unloading 150 ships just seemed stupid to me. It now holds something like 45 if I remember rightly.

Basically the player will require several carriers if he to succesfully challenge a strong enemy. This also means that after some tweaks, carriers will be positioned in most sectors.

No. You either need:

- X2 Mod Manager (most people's choice I guess)
- X2 Archiver (Harlock's favourite tool)
- or x2build from Egosofts Modding Kit (my fav)

X2 Mod Manager and X2 Archiver are both available from Doubleshadow's site.

I'm not expert in using this. But it seems pretty obvious:

- Open X2ModManager
- Create a new empty mod or open an existing one
- Drag & Drop your files into the upper right panel
- a popup appears asking for some directory - enter the directory the changed file was in (for examples "types" for TShips)
- optionally mark the "Pack files" option if your file isn't already packed
- Ok
- now your mod should be ready to use.

Wohoo... now I just need to reinstall X2 and test it as I done a major cockup earlier and accidently removed some original files.
