Ore and Silicone

Post by dirtytrader »

Hey - I was just on my way to another pirate sector for some target pracitce and some capturing when I thought I may as well have a go on my Mineral scanner that I have just found in the cargo bay of a pirate ship I had a go at.

Now I found the an asteroid with an ORE rating of 28. All the rest had 6 or 8. Is it worth setting up a nice factory there?

There are no other ore mines in that sector (Headquarter PTNI or something) and there are at least 3 factories there just gagging for a nice bit of ore!

What is an exceptable ore/silicone rating and are they worth the out lay? :?

Saw a UFO last night - It tried to put me off capturing a Orinoco.

The highest yield for an ore mine is about 64 but a yield of 28 isn't bad at all. If there are factories in the area needing ore then its worth setting a mine up. They are relatively low cost and only need ECs to run and hence only one frieghter. If you are going to buy an ore mine check where you buy it from as the prices vary between the races. IIRC the Argon one is about the cheapest and you'll find an Argon ship yard in Omnicron Lyrae (which is south, east, east from where you are is its PTNI headquarters you are in now)

Hope this helps

A 28 yield is very nice. The highest yield I know is 80-something, but you can't see it until later in the game :D

I say go for it and deploy.

BTW if you have a few fighters to spare, you can use THEM to get the goodies for factories, 'specially if you have Bayamons. Those substitute frieghters nicely. Otherwise, go for Lifters.

If you are planning on using a Bayamon (highly recommended BTW :D ) remember to max out the speed and cargo bay.

That reminds me that my supply is running very short again. Must be time to visit my old friends in Priests Pity and Brennans Triumph again

Personally I only use fighter class craft for resources which I need in small amounts--e-cells are just used too fast to make it worthwhile going that route for them, IMHO.

Got to disagree on that one. Bayamon ships are fast enough and have enough cargo capacity (when maxxed) to cope with EC purchase for something like an ore mine if there is a plentiful supply of ECs in the area. And of course they are free :D
