Having problems with the game play
I was to apologize for my first post. I was frustrated and angry. because I could not do any thing. For just one example:
I started out as an Argon Patriot and I followed the transport and afterwards was asked to follow a pirate to his hideout. I got into the Rapier that they gave me and headed out. Once we got to the hideout I could neither scan the base or move. When I was asked to go to another sector I could not do so, because my ship had no engine or something. It just wouldn't move. The x-button would not activate the engines nor could I use the J-key. I was stuck in space.
In another senerio I was asked to place sattelite in the center of a sector, but had no credits to purchase the sattelite. (What's up with that?) Yes, I have read the manual several times, but either I am stupid or I have problems retaining everything included in the manual. Any suggestions?

Scanning should start automatically when you're close enough (400m on the HUD). I've no idea why you couldn't move, but it's not normal.Jallard wrote:Once we got to the hideout I could neither scan the base or move. The game doesn't give you many freebies. In another senerio I was asked to place sattelite in the center of a sector, but had no credits to purchase the sattelite. (What's up with that?)
Earn credits by trading and from missions you have the ships/equipment to do, and you'll have enough to buy the satellite.

Well, if you're asked to place a satellite and you don't have the money to buy one, you need to earn some more credits!
I'm not clear on your second problem. You scan the pirate base simply by getting really, really close to it. I don't know why your ship would have stopped working, though--there's certainly nothing in that part of the plot that causes that. The only thing I can think of is that you accidentally activated the autopilot, but the ship wouldn't be sitting stationary in space if that was the case!

I re-ran the mission, to follow the Pirate ship and as I was going through the gate another Pirate ship got close and scanned me. So, when I got on the other side the gate, the other Priate ship that I was tailing had stopped. Then, all of a sudden another Pirate ship came out of nowhere and blasted me out of the universe. Any suggestions on how I should avoid being detected.? I tried to stay 30 Kilometers behind matching his speed, but apparently that is still too close. Thanks.

In those missions, keeping a distance of at least 10 km is fine.
As for detection from other pirates, can't really do much about them. Break off from following your target and eliminate the pirates, then fall back in. Rinse/repeat.
Trust me, those missions aren't that strict as you'll soon see when you start doing Goner missions.

Frustrated with X-3 and my Computer
When I bought this game on Thurday last week, I bought with the knowledge that my brand new computer just met the requirements. I was given a Rapier ship in Mars to do a mission, but there were no weapons in the ship; nor where there any for sale anywhere. I did however complete the mission to taill a Pirate to search for and to scan his base. I managed to complete that mission. I was then given my own squad of Rapiers for my next mission: However, when trying to go through one of the gates I was unabe to. It didn't matter whether I selected autopilot or just tried to fly though the gate with my squad. The guidance system was all over the screen. It was going so fast I could barely keep up with it. It was just all over the place. Even if I slowed to a crawl I couldn't get through the gate let alone stop the unruly movement. It was terrible. So, out of frustration I uninstalled the game and will trade it in for Fallout 3, which I really wanted, but they were sold out.
I do want to thank you for your support, however. I think a lot of the problem is that I have Vista Home Premium 64-Bit on my system and only one 256MG GeForce 9000 series video card.

Uninstalled the game and reinstalled
I was so frustrated that I unistalled the game and was ready to give away. After I cooled dawn for 24-hours I reninstalled it and much to my suprise the game seemed much improved. The graphics are exceptional: not like after the initial installation. I was impressed. I am starting to get use to the game, but now my ship is dammaged and I cannot find the Image Regconition Station in Argon Prime. It doesn't show up on the sector map. I need to buy some missles to get enough credits to repair my ship. History has shown that if you fly around long enough you ship will just blow up on you.
Incidentally, I want to thank you all for your comments and help.

The game can be frustrating and as other people have pointed out, it is not very kind to new players. The X universe takes a bit of getting used to but it is worth it.
A damaged ship can be repaired for free by ejecting from your ship and using your spacesuit laser on it. The larger the ship the longer repairs take, but if you have little money it is a life saver. If you cannot see a station that should be there then you probably have not been close enough to it. Maps normally only show stations that have been in range of your radar at one time or another. Duplex and Triplex scanners help with this a lot.
