Fresh reinstall: Worse (precieved) performance than before

Hey guys...

So i started me a new game, fresh reinstall over steam.
I note that my performance seems to be a LOT worse than last time i played, but i have no numbers to back it up (recommend me a good fps monitor program plz?)
The only changes I can think of is a newer driver, dxdiag to follow:
The driver is a modded driver using http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
that may be the issue, and ermm... the dell website with my driver is down

I realize the best solution for my 2yo system is to get a new one, which I plan on doing sometime over the summer after i graduate >.>

Given that your game is modified, it's quite possible the scripts/mods are responsible for at least some of the performance problems - have you tried with vanilla?

stubs, they're parts of the Registry used to direct operations - some info here:

- I'm no expert, but I'm told that stubs associated with various apps and progs, etc
can remain in the registry even after the host app/prog has been removed..

- a registry cleaner like Ccleaner checks to see if any of these are still in registry
- they're rather like signposts pointing nowhere - and scrubs them out..

- this avoids them being used (or confused) with the re-installed prog..

Im gonna try a complete reinstall again, checking the registry before I install, starting pure with no mods.
This time i backed up my x3tc before doing anything with steam, so i shouldnt have to download it again.
New reports tomorrow sometime... first i sleep.

Semantics. What that sticky means is that this forum is for tech support related discussion only - any hardware discussion unless directly related to a tech support issue belongs in off-topic. You'll get better discussion about it there anyway, as they tend to be a knowledgable bunch hardware-wise.

I'm not going to answer it for the simple reason that I don't get to compare a lot of different hardware these days, and so I'm not in a position to advise.

I've just noticed - you don't have SP1 for vista installed. Take a look at the system requirements sticky - it mentions that SP1 is a minimum requirement.

There is a good reason why SP1 is a requirement for the game, and it relates to a memory handling problem with the original release of Vista. So yes, it could well make a difference.

im rather surprised.

Vista sp1 seems to indeed have helped, my fps averages are closer to 30+, which makes the game playable.
Granted, I didnt get into any actual combat, but i am sure with a bit of help from mods it will be a smooth ride.
