Ship Randomly Explodes?

My ship seems to have a chance to randomly explode when I enter a sector. I read somewhere that TAGES may cause this problem if your game is not legit, but I got mine off of steam, so why does this still happen?

My version is completely unmodified and I'm not running any extra scripts.

Please register your game by right-clicking on it in the Steam client and choosing "Register your game...". While you are there you could also try verifying your game installation by choosing the the "Properties" option, "Local files" tab, "Verify integrity of game cache..." button.
