Running Specs?
Hi
I've decided that i'm going to increase my RAM from 1GB (pretty pathetic, I know) to 2GB, and I was wondering what sort of an effect this might have on performance in X3:TC. I know its a pretty hard question to answer with all the other variables involved, but i'm trying to decide whether it is worth it or not.
My specs are:
Windows Vista Home Premium
3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium D
NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE
Any help is welcome!!
Thanx

I'd recommend 4Gb, if possible (even on 32bit Windows).
Although I'm not sure how well your rig will run TC anyway - some benchmarks.

someone posted here about upgrading to 4GB of RAM... WinXP64 I think.
Apparently there was performance gained.
However, I have a feeling X3 in general is CPU and GPU hog...
anyways,
1GB feels small, especially with Vista (doesnt it claim 600MB-1GB just on startup?)

X3 is an everything hog--it certainly uses a lot more than 1Gb of RAM in normal operation, so increasing to 2Gb ought to provide a reasonable improvement. However, as Carlo points out, your machine is a bit poorly specced in GPU and CPU as well, so those might well be the limiting factor on performance in your case!

Thanx guys.
I would certainly like to upgrade to 4GB, but apparently my motherboard dosen't support it....
Now in this case your proably thinking, just go the whole way and get a new computer. One problem - small budget. However like fiksal said, the great plague (vista) is a ram hog, and some ram seems like a wise choice for improved performance across the board - not just in x3:TC.

Just don't do what I did and mess up the BIOS installation, rendering the machine unbootable--had to replace my motherboard! Not that this was a particularly BAD thing given how rubbish the old board was, but I could have done without the expense...eladan wrote: Would be worth checking whether there's been a BIOS upgrade for your MB recently - they often tweak things like that.

or what I did, - wiped out my RAID array info when I flashed the BIOS... unexpectedly...pjknibbs wrote:Just don't do what I did and mess up the BIOS installation, rendering the machine unbootable--had to replace my motherboard! The array metadata is most probably stored in the drives, but naturally the flash reverting the BIOS to the "no raid" default combined with the less than stellar default behaviour of certain brands of OS ...fiksal wrote:or what I did, - wiped out my RAID array info when I flashed the BIOS... unexpectedly...

I see. Well it remembered the config once I selected it, but it also forced me to rebuild the array.
