In X3 TC, how to invert the vertical axis of the mouse ?

In X3 TC, how to invert the vertical axis of the mouse ?

Post by largoteg »

I didn't find anything about this, please tell me there is a trick to invert the mouse (push the mouse: you go down / pull the mouse: you go up)...

Thank you in advance for your help !!!

But.. the mouse pointer is used the same way for menues as it is for steering. Wouldn't what you request make it very difficult to aim your gimballed lasers, not to mention click objects or menues?

I mean to invert the vertical axis of the mouse for the ship navigation only, not for navigating into the menus.

This is very usual, for flight, to allow the inversion of the vertical axis of the mouse, since this is more natural for lots of people, and since this is the rule for flight simulation.

Any hint ?

It's in the in-game options somewhere.

if you could please precise the "somewhere", because I have looked at all the game options, and didn't find this one for the mouse .

Thank you in advance.

I had already tried that, I've just tried again after your reply, saved my profile, but it doesn't change anything to the ship navigation: the vertical axis of the mouse is not inverted, that is to say:
if you drag the mouse towards you, the ship goes down, if you push the mouse away from you, the ship goes up.

I'd like the opposite behaviour, as already said.

Any other hint, please ?

Thank you very much in advance

There are no other hints to give, as that's the way you do it.

Make sure you're not going back to a default profile when you exit from the controls menu.

How would you aim? Think about it. You could use Boresight only of course, but for selecting targets and mouse-cursor aiming, you'd be in the opposite half of the screen as compared to what you're trying to aim at.

Flight STICKS are usually "inverted" for flight sims yes, this is how planes are actually built - "up" or "forward" to pitch forward ("nose down") and "down" or "backward" to pitch backward ("nose up"). For mouse control, FPSs were inverted for a long time and I still used inverted mouse in FPSs two or three years ago, but in FPSs, all you need to do is navigate the crosshairs that are always at the center of the screen. This is something different.

I understand what you want to do, but I don't think you know what you're asking for.

Try pressing space while in flight to switch mouse follow mode on.

Also check your profiles (in Egosoft\X3TC\profiles\ under your documents folder) are writeable.

to summarize:

- perpiotrredman: what you explain about flight seems and FPD is exactly what I want

- I checked: my profile file is correctly saved

- I tried "space" (cursor flight mode): no change / but after second thoughts, I would say the developpers wanted that, since they want you, in this mode, to easily select a target with the cursor, the cursor obviously following the mouse movement

- I tried "Shift + N" (classical flight mode= no cursor): no change as well, which may be a pity, since I would have expected this mode to apply the pitch inversion mode of the mouse.

So I guess there is no way...

Thanks to the ones you answered anyway !

It is possible, because that's how I fly - classic flight mode with inverted mouse.

No idea why it's not working for you...

EDIT: Actually, push=down is the default for classic, by the looks of it. So try classic with invert off.

haaaaaa !

right, here it is ! I had never tried the shift+N with the invert off....

Ok, thank you very much for this last EDIT ! It works the way I wanted, and this is the 1st time where I see in a game the inverted mouse being the default ! ;-)

thanks again.

Invert mouse pitch works for classic flight mode only. Back to the original question, is there a way to invert the mouse pitch for mouse follow mode? I'd also like to reduce the dead zone for my mouse.

EUREKA. Nobody was able to answer that for me in a couple of other threads. The game should tell us that mouse inversion doesn't work unless classic mode is on.

I don't have the opportunity to open the game right now but... what does classic mode entail? Can I still aim my shots without using boresight fire? Can I still access the menus at all?

EDIT:: I don't really like the classic interface : \
I guess I'll just have to do without the inversion.

It does work - it inverts the inversion.
