Best buys not working...

Im not sure if im being dense and missing something obvious, but;

I cant seem to use 'buy ware for best price', or the three other commands in that block on the control panel. Theyre there, but all greyed out. This is the case for all my ships - a sabre, nova, vidar, cutlass and vulture with lvl7 trader MK3. All have trade command 1 & 2 (and 3 in the vulture), navigation software, jumpdrives etc

Any advice? Basically i want to kit out the vidar (just done the terran mission to get it) and its gunna take me an age to wander around picking up sheilds etc otherwise.

Not sure if its cos i cant 'see' a lot of sectors, but then id still want this command working to buy the satellites to deploy anyway?!

You may even polish them with gold if they don't have the Best Buy and Best Sell software, which you can find at any Teladi EQ.

'Buy Ware', 'Buy for Best Price' and the equivalent sell commands are used for factory traders - if a ship doesn't have a homebase, they won't be active. Incidentally, the Best Buy/Best Sell locators are not required for those commands.

If you want to do a manual trade run you need Trading System Extension. Remote Best Buy may be what you're looking for though - and that does require the locator, as far as I remember.

The options

Remote Best Buy...
Remote Best Sell...

are available to ships without a homebase that have the

Best Buys/Best Selling locators installed.

Hmmm, i'll check the loadout on the ships but pretty sure ive got everything mentioned (except the gold plating )

None of them have home bases, which may well be the problem. Can i set any old base as the home base? Ive steered clear of station building so far so not really sure how all that jazz works. I only set up the lvl 3 trader cos i thought itd make me some easy money and be useful to send off to buy stuff i needed. Ah well...

Huh. Guess ill have to get into station building after all. Expect a 'problems with building stations' thread soon! By soon i mean the four or five game days itll probably take me to get enough cr to buy a station!

Why do you "have" to get into station building? The command you are trying to use is primarily intended for supplying a factory. If you don't have one then you basically don't need to use the command, and hence don't need a station to set as your ship's homebase.

If all you want to do is buy a few 25Mj shields then you don't want to use one of the homebased commands anyway - you should use Remote Best Buy (needs TSE & BBL, iirc).

Seems im confusing myself now to be honest. Ill have a go when i get in from work later.

One of the best and worst things about this game seems to be how long it takes to actually figure everything out! Im sure if everything was explained perfectly in the manual it wouldnt be nearly as engaging. Plus id prob need to extend the house to fit the manual in...
