How do I make x3tc use more than 2 gb ram under vista 32bit

Post by ArchVile »

Howdy,
I had stuttering problems with x3tc under vista ultimate 32bit but found a post in this forum somewhere that solved my problem.
The post gave instructions on how to make x3tc use more than 2 gb ram under vista 32bit.
I have since reinstalled windows on the machine and of course i have lost the instructions used to solve the x3tc problem.
For memory it was a 2 step process. I had to run something using the "run" command which set the operating system to be able to run applications with more than 2 gig (something to do with boot.ini i think). Then i had to set the actual application (x3tc) to run using more than 2 gig. I think it was a right click on the x3tc.exe file and then somewhere had to tick a box that said "application can use more than 2 gb"

I have searched this forum and tried my luck with google but for the life of me i can't find it. I am reasonably certain that there is a post about this here somewhere.
Does anybody recall the post i am talking about? can you please supply a link to it.
thanks
regards Archy

I found it here:

on the second page, a post by Manddrack. It offered this link:
Link 2
I followed the instructions and i believe it helped.
Around that time i also updated my sound and graphics drivers so i am not sure what the critical fix was.

The only way to actually get it to detect more than 2 gigs of ram on a program is to use 64 bit windows. 32bit is limited to i think 2.5 or 3.5 gigs detected and 2 gigs on any application, where 64 bit windows, well let's just say you'll never have to worry about the OS not seeing your total amount of ram for a while.

Incorrect. It is possible to change the way 32-bit Windows maps memory for a process so that, instead of 2Gb for the system and 2Gb for the application, you get 3Gb for the application and only 1Gb for the system.

Ah, I stand corrected then, I guess I never really figured that part out when I was trying to get my 4 gigs to register on the old 32 bit boot I had before going to 64 bit.

I might give this a try with stalker soc as that game does not support laa and i swear stalker clear sky is the same as well but i have seen some fixes as well.

I don't know if TC supports laa or not but i have seen it use 1.7gig of ram on my pc. Only the person who compiled some parts of the game could tell us if they set the compiler flags to use laa or not.
