X³:TC Eng. v1.4 DVD - un-modified
If I change the joystick dead-zone setting; while sitting stationary in space, my current ships throttle setting changes; causing me to drift forwards.
Could someone check whether this is an er of my machine - or can be reproduced within their game.

i've had this a couple of times, the deadspot settings don't seem to match those in X3TC, what i found is if you go to full throttle or full reverse, there is a little button next to the throttle meter that says slow to stop, or something like that, that stops the ship even at full throttle and then use SETA, thats cured it for me

If I'm not docked at a station and in open space, with the throttle set to zero, then press Esc > select Options > Controls > tab Controls > Joystick dead-zone, using the cursor keys to adjust the value up or down, the ship begins to move forwards at 42m/s; with the throttle still set a zero, a touch of the backspace key and the ship returns to a halt any further cursor adjustment of the value has no effect, if I use the mouse to adjust the value - the ship does not move, so it only happens with cursor input. To get this to repeat I have to escape from the control panel, throttle up and then back to zero.
