8 buton hat and straifing

i cant get straifing to workwell with my joystick im prettysure its because the hat is 8 button instead of 4 so when i try to straif diagonaly it doesnt register and does nothing. is there a way to bind these diagonal buttons to straif in 2 directions at once?

yeah, I had the same problem with my joystick when i was using it
