Crash during mission progression

X3:TC quite frequently crashes during an update on mission progression, but ONLY when the extra monitor screen thing is up with the person's face chatting away to you (well so far anyway). For instance, when I'm

laying out satellites in the split area to find the jumpdrive parts
performing an action that updates the plot but shows no mini cinematic person has not crashed the game, but when I

capture the caiman or find the TL
I can usually get it to crash.

Any ideas on what I can do to get even a work around would be helpful, as I was just starting to get into the story.

I am running vista without SP 1 (can't upgrade due to location issues for a while) but with most, if not all the gaming patches.
I have the steam version, English, updated to 1.4
I am running no mods.

I can't try this on Windows XP either, because I try and run steam in XP and validate X3:TC, and TAGES gives me the forcefully disconnected problem.

Hi,

That error code is showing Ddraw.dll as the faulting file, that is a component of Microsofts directx installation.

I would try the microsoft site and see if there is an updated version or a repair option to solve that issue.

The problem with the Vista dxdiag is that it doesn't show the full info on directx as it did with XP, which make schecking it impossible.
