I have both x3: Reunion and x3: Terran Conflict on steam, however, when I installed TC, it asked for a serial number, which steam filled in for me, however, when it tried to activate the game it couldn't connect to the server. I know it's not my firewall blocking it or anything of that nature, as I've checked and rechecked all my settings on that.
Any ideas of a fix??

I posted in the other thread
I'm asking Steam for a refund. As it happens, their policy states they never give refunds for any reason.
I then planned to do a credit card chargeback. Steam policy states, under the heading "credit card fraud", that if you do a credit card dispute, they will permanently lock out all of your accounts.
And then I notice that Steam has an 'F' rating at the Better Business Bureau, and apparently don't really care about it.
I'm going to chargeback anyway if they don't refund, lose my Orange Box, buy X3 boxed and just try to avoid Steam from now on

You do know this isn't Steam's fault but whoever runs the DRM servers, right? Steam is just delivering the game to you and they're the best digital distribution platform out there.andmie wrote:I posted in the other thread

Actually under the Sale of Goods Act in the UK a buyer is legally entitled to a refund on a game if they get it home and it won’t run on their computer. A lot of shops just try it on a bit. I’m not sure how that would work with digital distributors like Steam though.Gothsheep wrote:Yeah. I don't blame Steam for that. No place will give you a refund on opened software, and downloaded software is just as bad as opened. Steam has nothing to do with this.
As for it not being Steams fault that X3:TC is currently unusable, no it’s not their fault. But they are still the vendor who sold what is currently an unusable game. As such, morally, they should still honour refunds. If you’d bought a Sony Stereo from a shop, got it home and it didn’t work you take it back to the shop, you wouldn’t contact Sony.

Playing Devil's Advocate here, from Steam's point of view the product they've provided actually works perfectly. The software is designed not to run if it cannot contact the TAGES server, and it cannot contact the TAGES server so it is not running.
The software is doing precisely what it's meant to do. That's the problem.
