Convoy missions bug annoying please fix

The OTAS convoy mission is just killing me, the freighters split up and circle in order to die, making me feel like I am playing a bad game rather then flying in space. Whoever thought up making the pilots of the freighters fly 'stupid' I hate you. They split up, run away from their escorts, and circle slowly when attacked rather then making for there destination ASAP. In short they behave as if they are badly programed game features trying to make things harder for me, rather then desperate pilots trying to stay alive. It just ruins the game, makes it feel like I am working to get it done rather then playing to get it done. Missions should be exciting, not a pain in the ass. The ships I am escorting wait for the enemy to show up. Its obvious a set amount are to take a shot at the convoy so sometimes the convoy sits around waiting at the gate for the the next enemy to arrive. So not an epic space adventure at that point, more like a little mini game of pacman or something as the enemys come like the dumb ghosts, no brains they just dive in and die against a barrage of flak artillery.

I am flying a Split Panther on the first OTAS escort mission. All I have to do is fly the ship at the speed of the convoy and move between the convoy and the pirates as they arrive, but nooo the convoy pilots dont stay with the freaking massive shield they go running off away from me and each other and never towards their destination. Any other time they go annoyingly slow 67kms, but as soon as the enemy show up they hit the throttle and split up or run away from me as I try to help.

Why? Why don't they act like pilots trying to live? Why do they seemingly want to die? Its like they are just there for me to save instead of there trying to do something and I have to save them. Whoever scripted the convoys, please revisit the whole idea of how they become more difficult. It should not be by making the pilots of the freighters stupid it should be by making the enemy smart, or more, or tougher, or ANYTHING but making the npc ships act in ways contrary to anything a real pilot trying to live would do. Make it real.

Update, wow I failed this mission when the convoy flew around the OTAS HQ for 10 effing minutes with little pirate m4's and m'5's attacking. so boring and so utterly stupid the pirates would entire Legends Home in puny ships it made me feel dumb for playing this game. The convoy circles under the HQ endlessly until they die WHY THE **** DON"T THEY LAND? i SIT THERE AND WATCHED THEM DIE AFTER 10 MINUTES AS IT WAS RUINING MY FEELING OF BEING IN THIS UNIVERSE WATCHING THEM CIRCLE STUPIDLY WHEN SAFETY WAS RIGHT OVER THERE HEAD. As well, what is the point of the pirates attacking at that point other then for me? They will gain nothing as they can't salvage or claim in the middle of effing legends home! jsut another epic fail by the mission scripter who apparently thought serious sam was more realistic then half life...
