The rolling demo isn't that good of a check since there are an enormous amount of cpu load that goes into the AI out of sector too. so in the rolling demo there are at max 100 ships going, while in game you have a couple thousand ships each with their own AI scripts or something, albeit the scripts require less load when OOS. I am running well, but i use vista Ultimate 64-bit which is a bit nicer as it lets me allocate a bit more memory to the task, but since X3:TC is 32-bit the system still can't allocate more than about 3.25 GB too it i think. Try using windows ready boost, i use a 1gb stick and i feel it helps some, but i don't have any benchmarks to prove it.

edit: also i don't beleive the game will really use more than one cpu core.

    Strange...

I got an old heap with an E6300 1,86 GHz dual core, 1 GB RAM, Radeon X1600 XT and 250 GB disk space running Windows XP SP3, and the only time I see major lag is when I'm in sectors with lots of asteroids and/or stations, like Argon Prime or Aladna Hill.

Maybe Ozman202 is right, and the game hates you :P

BTW, you got the latest drivers for your pc and the v1.3 patch I assume...?

yep latest drivers 1.3 everthing I can think of. When I 1st started to play noproblem but every time I got on it goes slower. Funny I can rip through Crysis and warhead 1920x1200 very high 4aa and stay above 50. But not this game. By the way I played all the X games that have come out and have never had any trouble till now.

    What else is running ?

Last time I looked, I had well over 8000 scripts running in my game.

I know that any net activity behind the game causes mine to lag, so if you have some cpu hungry application going in the background it will cause the game to lag on you, and so will constant net activity.

When I want to play seriously, where lag will be an issue, I shut down everything in the background and just run the game. Net disabled.

Funnily enough, I've got a well below average system, and only got 8fps on the beanchmark, but I only get lag in Aldrin, when next to a large ship, or xenon and khaak sectors that are overfull.

I can freely admit I dont know what an I7 is.

    Not that it matters.

In X3, some of the really high end computers (which I assume an I7 is) had major problems because the game simply couldnt use what they had. Especially when duel cpus came in, X3 could not use the second one. I notice yours has four cpus, but would very surprised if the game is using more than 1, so therefore its still possible for the cpu to be inadequate if the computer is set up to use all 4 equally and game cant use them.

A mod will shift it when one notices it.

    I7s are overpriced.

I'm running an E8600 at 4.0ghz stock voltage. A quarter the price, more power efficient, and way less heat. My whole computer is only burning 137 watts. I'm running on air and it stays under 40 celcius on load, 30 or less idle. Right now just surfing the net the cores are at 27 28.

Guy I know running an I7 Extreme has his up around 70 on load, although he may just need a better cooler.

Sure, it has 4 cores as opposed to 2, but most games don't even use dual cores - so 2 is plenty enough (1 for Windows, 1 for Game).

I'll get the new stuff when its more developed in a couple years, and the price has gone down.

It really bothers me that there are machines that make mine look like a calculator that are struggling (mine=E6600, 8800GTS) yet I run at 1680x1050 with medium textures with the setting other on high AA at x4 etc and only ever once noticed lag When using PSGs against a swarm of Khaak. I run Vista Ultimate 64 with 2 Gig of memory.

X3:TC is single threaded and 32bit, it constantly reads from the hard drive, all of which means is can not use all of the resources your machine has to offer.

As the i7 range are so new, it would be worth keeping a regular check for motherboard; what is the model?, chipset/driver/BIOS updates.

Hey thanks for the heads up MR. Obvious! My last PC was a E8600 @ 4.5 it ran great. I had a couple of thousand dollars to burn so i bought a 920 for 299 hardly over priced but I also had to get MB, Ram and case. I been and overclocking for a long time, I know the game only uses only 1 core almost no game is quad core optimized which is why I only run 2 core on my i7. I think its more then obvious I having a software conflict and trying to resolve this no pc in the world is gonna over come that Kinda problem,

    Oh, okay.

So you upgraded from a computer with a 4.5ghz dual core that had ran it great to one with a 3.9 ghz quad core with two cores disabled that has problems. All for the low low price of a couple thousand dollars.

    It all makes sense now.

    Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Basic (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2, v.113 (6002.lh_sp2beta.081017-1605)
Vista SP2 beta, does it have a debug report type process; or what ever they are called, running ?

I would still be interested in knowing what your motherboard is.

Are you running the BETA Service Pack on the other machines as well or just this one? Just a thought that the problem could be there instead since it's still in Beta. Afterall it is a Microsoft beta, they rarely get it right on release, much less in beta.
