newbie camera question...

Post by darue »

I think I'd really like an external camera view with aiming reticule and a 'lock camera on target' aka 'padlock' option. Is there some reason why this isn't in the game or am I just lost and not seeing the option?

Like Freelancer? I don't think there is one.

well, I couldn't get into freespace, but I think all the x-wings, klingon academy, the freespace games, bridge commander, independence war, etc. all had such a camera, maybe not all of them.

maybe it would be mod-able?

so that you can see your own ship but the camera always points past your ship and toward whatever you have targeted. As it stands I have to mess around with the POVhat to manually point the camera at the target. There should be an option to have it 'locked' at the target automatically and continuously.

an external camera view should have three zoomable modes:
1. manually point the camera, defaulting to behind your ship (hit a key like R to reverse view 180)
2. camera lock on target (hit a key like r to see yourself from outside the target ship)
3. cinematic flybys of your ship (or hit r to get cinematic flybys of the target ship)

and you should be able to do bore site targeting in modes 1 and 2. in mode 2 the targeting sight moves around the screen.

in X we've got only 1 and 3

The camera can be locked on the target but you don't get any reticule.
