Steam plus X3:TC = crap heaven

Post by saberike »

If you are going to buy X3:Terran Conflict don't do it! If you still want to buy it and live in the United States then pay big bucks to have it shipped from Europe. The only other way if your in the US is via SteamPowered Valve crap. For starters if you get it from steam it is icompatible with tools moders use to make plugins and stuff for Egosofts games. It won't run mods that require script extender. Secondly Steam apparently has decided to not update it. According to the official update news from the Steam website X3 Terran Conflict came out in 1969! And the X3:TC Steam forum is full of angry customers who want an updated game that will also run mods. What the crap!!

I guess it really dosn't matter if steam is going to update it because if you manage to get your hands on a physical copy of X3:TC you can't play it even with the updates because Egosoft decided it would be wonderful to ship a game to their customers that doesn't work because of all the bugs.

It would seem that Egosoft got ticked off that the modders of the X3 XTended mod made the game better than they did, (The XTended Mod involves Earth and everything in Egosofts X3:TC.) So Egosoft decided to out do their unpaid modding fans by releasing something totally similar except it is bug ridden and costs $39.99! The XTended mod is free.

Wow! Egosoft sucks.

Remember only crap sucks.

Where to start?

1. The date field that steam has for TC is apparently broken. Why is that an issue?
2. The only difference between the steam version and the DVD version is the executable. There is no reason scripts and mods can't work on both. I don't know where you got your information that scripts/mods wouldn't work with the steam version from, but frankly, it's rubbish.
3. The game does work. Some people are experiencing performance issues, but for everyone else, this game is perfectly playable. There are still minor issues to be addressed, certainly, but nothing that stops you from playing.
4. Many of the XTM modders were employed by Egosoft to work on TC, and there are many places you can see their influence. Clearly, they were far from being 'ticked off' by the mod if they were impressed enough to use some of its features.
5. This is a tech support forum. This is not the place to post rants.
