Rolling Demo-Shaders to medium turns all ships white-and other anomolies

Post by wrangler708 »

Was playing around with the rolling demo to see what kind of performance I can expect. System below.
Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 | Intel Q9450 @ 3.2 | GTX 260 @ 702/1498/2400 | GSkill PC-6400 2x2 Gb | 2x Western Digital VelociRaptors in Raid 0 | PC P&C Silencer 750 Quad | Antec 900 | Liteon SATA DVD Burner | Vista Ultimate 64 | BenQ FP241VW |
Nice system? I think so.

Anyway, I was surprised when it started out in the 60's @ 1920x1080 and thought I had it made but it quickly went to another scene that dropped into the 20's. Few scenes later it was in the 200's. Few scenes later, back in the 20's.

So, I tried turning shaders to medium as suggested but all of the ships are white. lol None of the other settings seem to have any effect.

Not wanting to be defeated I resigned myself to drop it down to 1680x1050. Guess what. Identical performance.

Bottom line, there is no setting or resolution that I've found that will make the area's that drop into the 20's playable.

Anybody else having the same thing? Especially the medium shaders turning things white.

Thank you for responding BugMeister but I think I am going to join the conversation here:

This thread describes my experience with the rolling demo exactly.

except for the ships turning white thing..............but hey, if the performance thing gets figured out it's a moot point.

Thanks again.

I also experienced the exact thing (white ships) in the demo, on medium settings. Not exactly pure white, kind've like the gamma/brightness for ships was turned up waaay too high lol.

I just totally wiped my system and am starting over from scratch.

Chipset, Lan, Audio and video drivers only. Nothing 3rd party at all and everything will be the latest I can find. Totally pristine

If it still doesn't work right, I guess X3-TC just doesn't work with my computer. (which I won't understand

Will report back later.

Nope

Same thing even with fresh install. Even the stuff turning white.
System is as pure as I can make it. No OC no nothing......Updated DirectX.
Doesn't make sense. It's a Gigabyte X48 motherboard with Nvidia graphics. Thought I left all these incompatabilities behind when I went back to Intel chipset.

Damn shame. I've been waiting for this game for a long time. :(

The game just likes to chug when certain objects show up... I wouldn't worry about putting it on medium shaders. Leave it on high. :]
Irrational factors are clearly at work.
