I think it is a good idea to implement a bug tracking system like the MantisBT: http://www.mantisbt.org/demo/my_view_page.php
Users can post the bugs and it is much easier to keep track on which bugs have been already reported. Additionally, you get to see which bugs are currently being worked on and which have been resolved. A changelog will be dynamically created so you can hopefully watch it getting longer everyday. This would keep the users satisfied and they wouldn't ask for the patch so often (as they can see it is relly being worked on).

I expect they already have a bug-tracking system, otherwise they wouldn't be able to manage such a large project.
The only difference is the bugtracker Egosoft use will contain NDA information, and therefore won't be public.
Your bracketed comment, however, I know to be untrue unfortunately. I've been on a project with a public Mantis bugtracker and you get just as many "are we there yet?"s as ever - in fact, you end up with some of them on Mantis!
As this isn't a Technical Support request, moved.
