I read in your sticky that if you "hear music and effects but no voices or garbled voices" it is most likely a codec problem.
My problem is I hear sound effects and voices perfectly but no music.
This is great for the "Its really lonely in space immersion factor" but I quite liked the "docking tune" (it seemed to make docking easier ??! )
I figured it must be a codec thing also and when I tried to play 1 of the music files direct from program files I got a message box that I had to click in order to get it to play. This i presume was a missing codec?
Whatever it was I can now listen to any of the sound files in my programs folder of the game with media player 11 but they still wont play in game.
I uninstalled my codec packs ,uninstalled Wplayer 11,reinstalled Wplayer 11 and installed k-lite pack making sure no fddshow stuff was installed (when doing this it searches pc for other codec packs and uninstalls them )
So only codec pack I have now is k-lite with no fddshow stuff.
The only other thing that may or may not be relevent is when I installed the game I only installed the english language pack and unticked all the other language boxes.
So can someone please help me by telling me :
1.How I can get my music to play in space(in cut scenes where there is music and video it works fine)
2.Is it only background music I am missing out on hearing? i.e are there any other special effects/background special effects that may be linked to this codec or whatever my problem is(like longer explosion, engine sound loops etc)?
If it is just music I am missing out on and it means not having to uninstall game and start over then I can live with that.
Need Help getting music to play

Ok after doing a dxdiag I found a few ffdshow things in there and through some file searching found them. I manage to open the config editor for them and found they were disabled, but I think just the fact that they were there was enough for the music not to work.
I uninstalled the k-lite pack and exterminated the remaining loose ffdshow files, uninstalled real player, quick time player and some other player I had.
Did a registry clean up,defragged my K drive(only x3 and a couple other games on it ,so not too long
) and finally did a registry defrag too to finish it all off !
Rebooted pc , started game and voila music flowed throw my speakers(which I promptly then turned down to 20%
??)
So you can consider this problem resolved and post closed.Sorry for taking up this space but I did try what was suggested first only I couldnt find ffdshow on my system then, which is why I posted(only to find later that it was infact on my system
)
Anyway the silver lining was that I found a great tool for doing the reg cleaning and defragging called "Advanced SystemCare 3" which is free and better than the paid for stuff I have on my pc (found and fixed more reg problems then the 1 i already own plus the defragging tool is way better than the standard one that is built in (does alot of other stuff too but I don't want to get into trouble for blatantly advertising
