Total N00b, completely blown away

Post by incubusjax »

Hi Everyone,

I've been eyeing the X games for a while now wondering if they're "worth it". So I finally bought X3:TC after reading some posts and watching some videos.

I have to admit, I'm in love with this game. I've played the "trials" of EVE Online before, and just couldn't get into it - but this is what I had hoped that game would be!

Granted, I'm a total n00b and I haven't done much yet. I just started the Terran Plot and jumped into the action. The interface was a little daunting but once I got a feel for it I have to admit I think it flows nicely.

I'm sure this game will drive me crazy more than once, but man, so far I'm really impressed with it and think it's worth my time.

My only question is: What controller do you guys recommend? I only have my trusty Keyboard/mouse combo right now, but I'm interested in getting a controller for the game. I just know there are some real pieces of crud out there, so I thought I'd ask here first. :)

Thanks everyone, have a great one!

Welcome to the game and make sure you are patche to the latest or your game performance will be much worse in the future.

Last patch is 1.2.1 now.

About controller, these games imho should always be used with joystick, nothing equals the feeling of that into a space game.

I have a simple one. Logitech WingMan Attack 3. Cheap price and good reliability and if you brake it, you can always get another one very cheap like I did.

Enjoy!

I use mouse and keyboard too. If I could be bothered, I'd root out my old one. The only advice I'd give on the matter is make sure you get one with a twisty stick. Having one without and needing to roll with the keyboard is about as good as just sticking with a keyboard ;)

And welcome to X.

and into offtopic it had arrived. I am officially confirming.

Keyboard and Mouse work ok for me. Since I cant hit anything with a joystick, except - an asteroid head-on.

I'm useing a Saitek 52 now ,but I think I'm going to hunt down a Saitek 45 as I prefer the rudder control on the throttle handle and map the roll to the Y axis (if I got the axis name right). Rolling and pitch on the same stick.

Ya, flight /throttle combo stick for me . keyboard inbetween the two .

I can still rember the old Microsoft sidwinder precison pro, never did me any harm. It's discontinued but you could find one on ebay.

I do like my X52 pro mind, even though I don't use it as much as I would have liked.
A new rig is in my hands now if only there was time...

Welcome brave adventurer..........Sorry that was a little over dramatic wasnt it.

Anyway real men just use mouse and keys (that wasnt over dramatic, just fact :P )........Seriously you will find just like the gameing style people have different opinions, sometimes strong opinions, so if you are more comfortable with any specific controler then just go with that........I just dont like feeling imasculated :P

All the more reason for the contents of the sticky threads to be fresh in the poster's mind, surely? ;)
