Noob needs help installing patch.

I feel stupid for having to ask but I don't play many games aside from x series and haven't installed a patch before. When I download 1.2.1 do I select 'run' or 'save' (yeah laugh at the noob lol)? I saved it to my C drive as I couldn't seem to find the x3 folder in my list and need to know how to apply it to the game please.

Both will work. If you choose run it will be automatically downloaded into a temporary folder before run. If you choose download you decide where to put it but have to run it anyways afterwards. Once it runs, it automatically installs in the proper folder, you dont have to worry about it.

Just running it should work, but it's better to save it since you can then re-run it again later if you need to. You definitely don't need to save it to the game folder; most people download to their My Documents folder (in XP) or their Downloads folder (in Vista), or even simply to their desktop. Once it's downloaded just double-click on it and follow the instructions on screen to install it.
