Follow/protect me bugged?

When i set the ships to protect/follow me they are to close to ship
so when they fly of or i turn to quick they crash and die.

I also have this problem, they keep crashing into me, and stations!!!

my m5's cant stay in formation and keep flying around me and end up crashing many times too, it is definetly a bug
