Help, why won't these complexes merge?

Post by EventHorizon »

Ok, this is getting a tad irritating. I had a collection of 3 complexes, all based around Silicon and Ore mines. It has been my intention to string them together and make one massive complex producing everything that I need - basically weapons, weapons, more weapons and energy (excess to be used as jump drive fuel).

The first two complexes merged after adding an extra station to complex 1 (Now known as "iJS Complex Hub 002" - "iJS Complex Hub 001" is a self sustaining wheat/microchip complex is Presidents End). The third complex will not join no matter what! I've added new stations, as they were needed anyway, with no effect. As there are no station supply scripts I have no choice but to use complexes, but the complex construction is still the same mess from Reunion :( Can anybody offer me assistance with this? I don't want to use 3rd party scripts, I want a vanilla game.

The save file can be grabbed here.

Many thanks in advance.

Are you using stations and complex hubs all of the same race? I noticed others on the forum having problems trying to mix different race factories and hubs.

All Argon. Was going to add other races later (to get all weapons).

Not to state the obivious: but are the hubs close enough?

None of the hubs could be linked at first, but adding 1 station allowed hubs 1 and 2 to link.

Hub 3 will not attach, even though there is a very very very small amount of space between stations in the respective hubs.

It can't be based on the position of the central hub as 1 and 2 would never have merged. Bloody irritating :(

They're too far apart (about 30km, at a guess).

The distance between the stations is irrelevant - it's the distance between the hubs that matters.

use the buy ware and sell ware commands with -1 as the repeat. That'll allow you to set up a permanant transport link between 2 stations.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't there a trick involving creating a second or third small complex to allow you to move the hubs by doing everything in some order, so that it uses the new hub when you connect them instead of the old one, allowing you to slowly move them?

For the future I recommend using tractorbeam to move ore/silicon mines together. I moved 8 silicon mines together for my supercomplex with over 100 factories. They all tightly packed together, less then a size of SPP XLL.

I tried the tractorbeam, I have one installed in my Magnatar. But it won't fire! No matter what turret I put the TB in it simply won't lock on. I know the range is limited, is there a special trick to getting it to work?

I reverted to a previous save game and made a more tightly packed complex, but of course the mines are still too far away. Still, looks a lot better so far! But I have to say it, positioning stations is a PITA!!!

I managed to join them together. I built a third smaller one in the middle like some people have suggested. I then connect the new one an old one. Then connect the remaining two.
