placing TC on another rig.Question about TAGES

Post by TTD »

Just wondering about buying a new rig with good graphics and cpu etc.

Having installed TC on my current rig, can I install it on the new one without problems getting official updates etc. ?

In other words...Will I have to re-register the game and will the registration code on the manual be accepted, since I have already registered TC on my current rig?

Yes up to 5 installations are "accepted". That is, unless you un-install a game like you should un-install it (eg. not formating hte whole drive, but uninstall it wit the uninstall.exe thing), and if you have used all 5 installs, you can contact TAGES support to get more.

Thanks for your quick response.
Looked at the TAGES link but could not find a definative answer, like you have given.

5 is a bit excessive or generous. I would not upgrade that often.
But I guess there may be reasons why you would re-install several times, such as a virus or something.

Thanks again.

I've had the game crash all the time and first suspected my windows install which was way old, so I reinstalled. That's 2 activations already. But then it turned out it was still crashing unless I way underclocked and such. So this madde me suspect the PSU wasn't good enough. Also I had some problems unrelated to this with my mainboard so i swapped both PSU and mainboard, and I had to reinstall windows eventhough both mainboards have recent intel chipsets. Think it's because my old gigabyte mainboard just didn't want to use acpi multiprocessor, but insisted on MPS, where it does work with my new DFI. Anyway this all makes me be on my 3rd activation already. I suppose I should have uninstalled the game from my old windows installs, but oh well. In any case, my computer is stable now, overclocked and all, running X3TC over 3 monitors using an 8800gt, 7950gt and SOFTTH :)

I believe this restriction is only on the Steam version, not on the DvD version.

There is no online activation with the DvD version. The registration code on the manual was so you could register your game here (the blue ticky disk), not activate it :)

yes...I was referring to the DVD version.

So having registered it on here, once,I do not have do it again when I install
it on a replacement rig.

Is that what you are saying?

If so,life is getting sweeter.
