Bug - FPS-relenting particles whilst in SETA

Post by Seathal »

I noticed that, after a little few seconds in SETA x10 at high speed (I'm currently in an Argon Discovery Raider) a particle mass shows up a few meters in front of you as if it was the smoke of the propulsion but right in front of your objective crosshair.

Those useless particle effects relent the FPS and make using the SETA time more painful visually, since it keeps skipping and sometimes at sectors of mucha ctivity it turns into a screen slideshow.

Has anyoen else noticed this issue?

Yeah I get this too. It's the engine trail from your ship advancing in front of you at a faster speed. Which is weird because SETA is usually pretty glitch-free.

I don't really notice it taking an effect on FPS but mine always goes to hell anyway so its possible.

Well in my case it's all very fluid always except then. I don't get it. Also when docking at a ship station with SETA on it affects even more since the ship is turning and it seems to spread around (the particles). Or at least I think so.

What I can affirm is that it occurs. Maybe you don't notice since the smoke is black, just look closely when you're heading to a gate or when the background you're heading towards is not too dark.

The real weird thing happens if your frame rate gets low while you're in SETA on a fast ship--you'll notice that the "space dust" suddenly starts flying SIDEWAYS. Happened in X3:R as well. So did the problem with the engine exhaust appearing in front of you, incidentally.

I do think this is a major flaw since it directly affects the performance of the game. I didn't notice it in X3R at all (Maybe the exhaust smoke was smaller, or less particles). But in X3TC it gets very, very annoying.

I hope they fix it soon.

it's obviously a timing issue, it's drawing something because it thinks it should be in front of you, if you look at that from a relativity point of view it's actually technically right, you would see what's behind you...so someone has done some math that's a bit too good and the GPU is having trouble handling it, some filtering of what to display and not display during SETA would help...you should see how it looks from third person views of your ship...

I'd say the cause and effect are misplaced here. The timing discrepancy between ship's velocity and particle velocity probably comes about because of a stutter, not vice versa.

Why dredge up a 3 month old thread, when another thread on the subject is currently active?

Locked.
