Savegames corrupt - lost my last weeks play!

Post by texyuk »

I was quite pleased with my recent progress as I had just finished a 'hard' station protection mission and earned nearly 3 million for doing it. I loaded up X3:TC this morning to find that the games database (or whatever) must of become corrupt at some point in last nights game session as all three autosaves crash X3 when I try to load them. I rely on the autosaves - the last 'proper' save was pre 1.21 update, which loads ok, but is well over a week old.
I guess there is nothing that can be done now, but start again, or with the last main load?

There is no database of savegames, just the savegame files themselves. Presumably you'd not tried loading any of the auto-savegames for a while, which means the problem could have occurred any time in the last week making tracking down the cause pretty much impossible. You could upload one somewhere, though, for someone else to try loading, just in case they turn out to be OK and the problem turns out to be something else.

Thanks for the reply CBJ. I,ve been playing the game solidly since release. The autosave files have been constantly overwritten of course (and reloaded when starting a new 'session'). Prior to these last three saves, I had been reloading one of them 8 or 9 times as I had a lot of trouble completing this mission. Unfortunately I know that all three of these current saves are since I completed the mission as the number of credits shown in the menu would be about right for the 3 million prize.
I therefore know for a fact that all three of the gamessaves happened in the same gaming session, and that the game must of become corrupt early on as all three crash X3 when trying to load them. Its such a waste of a weeks play as its very hard going back and playing over the same ground again!
I,m happy to upload the file if there is a willing volunteer - it is 11 megs though, so would also need a hosting site suggested.

TC Problem

Hi,

I would really suggest never relying on the auto saves, it would be far better to re-save when docked so you have plenty of saves to try to re-load from.

Also don't forget to copy the saves off your pc to a backup drive each day just in case.

You can set a dos backup file to automatically copy them each night via the scheduler.

Filefront is alright. Registration is free, no fees required either. Upload it over there and I'll take a look at it.

PS:Don't forget to post the link, hehe

Because of the amount of hours one has to put into a single X3 game I have Auto save off and do two saves at a time and have a third save file that i use for factory complex save progress. Never trust one save file and have backup of saves on another drive.

Your hardrive could die as you switch it on in the morning its happend to me before. Always have two hardrives.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Well would you believe it but I gave one of the autosaves tonight and it's loaded ok this time! I can only assume that the program rather than the savefiles threw a wobbly earlier?
Anyway apologies for causing any unneccessary alarm.

Glad your game is still alive but, from now on, do regular saves more often ;)

Sounds suspiciously like my problem. Nobody's taken me up on the offer of my savefile though.
