Two different Caiman Super Freighter??

Post by Kapakio »

Well, I accept a deliver a ship mission, asking for a Caiman Super Freighter. I check the closest split shipyards and the one in the new sectors at the bottom (Contorted Dominum or Patriarch Collussion, dont remember) had two different Caiman Super Freighers. So I went for the cheapest one and when it reached the delivering station it was not recognized. I did't have the time to purchase and deliver the other one on time, so I abandoned.
Anyone has this two-version Caiman Super Freighter on your game?

There are two different versions of quite a few of the TS ships.

That is the same "feature" as in X3R too.

The five main races all do have two "SuperFreighter" variants: one middle-sized and one large. For some unknown reason they both have same name (but different type).
Most of the five races do have two "Tanker" variants as well: one small and one middle-sized. The small "Tanker" is actually identical in specs to the "plain" TS, but uses different 3D-model.

It seems that with this new mission type the minor annoyance of using same name for different objects turns into a real cause of frustration.

Well, I wonder if the larger version would do it or this two-variant "feature"makes this kind of missions undoable. Ill try next time.

Agreed, jlehtone. There are really 3 freighter sizes-- 4000 units cargo, 8000u, and 12000u base size which are then adjusted per race (ie, 3500/7000/10500 or so for Split Caiman, etc).

I rename my freighter ships as TS / TS2 / TS3 to help distinguish what they are. The smallest TS is good for deliveries of products from stations, and for general-purpose MORT against foods and ore/silicon. The TS2 makes a good UT and also is good for purchasing ecells and other station resources.

The TS3 tends to be too slow to do much aside from getting ecells or other bulk goods, if the region has several SPPs handy and not too much competition from other ships for them.
Do you remember Shalebridge Cradle?
