Jumpdrive does NOT work in Terran Sectors

Post by mdwills »

When I attempt to jump anywhere in the Terran (other than Asteroid Belt) sectors, the Jump screen shows but the arrow blinks in the center of the display and none of the jump gates are available on the right hand selection list. I can jump to anywhere else in the sectors I have explored. I am only exempt from the Terran jump gates. Any suggestions? (I have over 4000 energy cells in my cargo hold so don't even suggest that!)

You can't jump to them because they don't have gates in them. However you can use the autopilot command to jump to other sectors without gates so I would imagine the rationale here is that the jump drive is for interstellar travel, not for travelling the relatively small distances between planets in system. However the Xenon use a jump beacon of some kind so it would be nice if you could do something like that. Drop a nav. beacon to where you would like to jump to in a system as an alternative to gate network.

Does the path [Ship - orders - command console - navigation - Jump to sector - choose random terran sector like Mars] work for you?

Besides, it may have a completely normal in-game lore reason - the terran gates are not really gates, but completely different devices that accelerate your ship in normal space rather than making a jump event.. So a jumdrive can not lock on to these things.

Thanks for the quick response guys. If it is true that the jumpgates are indeed NOT jumpgates in the terran sector, maybe documenting it would be a good idea or probably a BETTER solution would be to use a different technique to identify them. Using the jumpgate letters from the other sectors to designate them is just plain wrong. You can tell the difference between race's ships and stations, why not the jumpgate/non-jumpgates?

I will try the nav beacon if I can find em.

Doesn't Bitching Betty say it in plain English? "Transorbital Accelerator".
Not "Jump Gate".
Duh.

That would be great if he knew that a Transorbital Accelerator was somehow different to a jump gate. Don't assume that everyone knows what you do. Remember, you were a n00b once too!
