What's with Flak weapons?

What's with Flak weapons?

Hi,

Got myself a Split Panther. Nice.

Equipped it out with a few weapons, among them Flak Artillery Arrays and the Fragmentation Bomb Launcher.

Currently in combat with a group of Xenon, 2 PXs, and several Ls & Ms. Thought I'd see how the Panther copes under AI control...

Anyway, my ship opens up using its Fragmentation Bomb launchers as soon as ship get in range...the shots miss & explode way past the target...no damage done..hmm. As the enemy ships close in my Flak Artillery Array starts pounding away. I'm following one of the PXs using the F3 camera, I can see the PX taking repeated direct hits from the FFA, the sort of hits that would toast it in seconds in Reunion. However, she ship appears to be taking ZERO DAMAGE. I continue watching and the only weapons that ever seem to get a hit on the enemy and do damage are the installed PACs, HEPTs and the Phased Repeater Guns.

I thought these Flak weapons were supposed to be the ultimate anti fighter weapons? Well the FAAs certainly HIT the target visually, no damage though. the FBLs just plain miss...shame the range the bullet explodes at isn't based on the range of the target...THAT would be an effective weapon.

I'm using the auto weapon switching mod so my Panther is always trying to use the 'best' weapon to score a hit. The weapons it invariable chooses are the FAA and the FBL - these weapons just don't appear to be very effective at all.

Any one else experiencing this? For the records these aren't lag-misses as my FPS is great.

How's your power? You might only be shooting 1 FAA at the PX and it might be regenerating as fast as you hurt it.

Hi,

Yeah, using those flak did run the power down pretty quickly, however when they first opened up they had plenty of power - I was checking for that.

Ended up removing the flak weapons and sticking with HEPTs, PACs and PRGs - more effective & energy efficient.

I can confirm my Cerberus does this too.

10 Flak Arrays and not one of them hits anything.

No mods, no scripts no nothing running.
